Fox News Airs "Magic Negro" Message On New Year's Broadcast

First Posted: 2/2/09 Updated: 5/25/11

UPDATED:
A response from Fox:

Fox News VP of programming Suzanne Scott explains, "We received tens of thousands of text message submissions during our New Years Eve special, and this particular viewer submission was inadvertently cleared for air. At FOX we recognize our error as opposed to networks who allow their hosts to utter crude vulgarities to the public."

The "crude vulgarity" Scott referenced was Kathy Griffin on CNN.

PREVIOUSLY:

Think Progress caught a "magic negro" reference during the New Years Eve broadcast on Fox News.

Viewers were allowed to text in messages that scrolled across the bottom in lieu of the news.

One message read:
HAPPY NEW YEAR AND LET'S HOPE THE MAGIC NEGRO DOES A GOOD JOB. LOVE JEN AND JOHN C.

It's FAUX NEWS. If they can't be counted on for trash, gossip, rumor, lies or name-calling; then who can?

IF YOU BELIEVE THAT FOX PUT THAT CD ON, IN ERROR, I'VE GOT A BRIDGE IN BROOKLYN THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SELL YOU.

I would never defend Faux News, but j-asses like this who uses all caps really tick me off. Plus, It was a text message, not the actual audio. You make people like us who rant on news forums look bad.

Regarding: "...networks who allow their hosts to utter crude vulgarities to the public."

Just a few years ago, Shepard Smith uttered a similarly crude vulgarity that Fox News didn't catch in time. See for yourself:

Fox News seems to have forgotten this little gem.

There is no doubt that bloopers (Freudian slips?) happen to the best of us, but while Shepard's error could have been caught before airing, there was little chance CNN could have bleeped out guest host Kathy Griffen's remark in time since it was a live broadcast of New Year Celebrations.

You can't compare Shepard Smith with Kathy Griffin. It's very clear that Smith flubbed up...he even corrected himself midway. And he apologized right away. Griffin has not. I'm only offended by what she said simply because it wasn't funny.

FOX News deserves a fine. I'm sure CNN was expecting one.

Big deal and so what and YAAAWWWNNN! You get upst about this while an ugly, pathetic, athiest, pig(let) comedian shrieks about knocking specific parts of the male anatomy out of a heckler's mouth on national TV? It's a joke you bunch of dunderheads...try laughing! It'll help your blood pressure!!! This is HILARIOUS!!!!

This man's mother was white -and they STILL try to clown him like this.
Just yet another example of the far-reaching "propaganda fantasy" this is "white supremacy"

DesiduousHugger -- First and foremost the thing that PEOPLE LIKE YOU do not understand is, no matter what the content or the underlying meaning of the song -- whether racist (which is a subjective reaction to the stimulus) or not, the fact of the matter is, the song calls Black people "Negroes" -- something that Black people do not call themselves. In fact, Black people have NEVER called THEMSELVES negroes -- white people did! So, is the song racist? YES!!! Because it uses an offensive and disparaging term against a race of people. Get it now, DesiduousHugger? Probably not!

First, it was not a song from Rush Limbaugh.

Second, it is a Parody and is not any more racist than Obama has been as it merely plays on things that Obama, Sharpton, and Biden have said so if the song is racist than those three are also.

Third, as a parody, it is merely intended as humor and does not insult Obama other than contrasting him to Sharpton.

Much Adeiu about nothing...

Why were you all not upset when Biden said worse? Why not get upset at the race card being played by Obama? Why doesn't the left get upset when comparable or worse things are said by their own peers?

You're not a minority are you? LOL If, at this time in the world, you can't distinguish what is and is not appropriate, there's no help for you. Happy New Year...I wish for you to find some minority friends and ask them legitimate questions so that you may enlighten yourself and others.

First, It WAS a song written by a staff writer for Rush Limbaugh, aired on his show, and credit CLAIMED by Limbaugh.

Second, Don Imus also was a parody. So was Michael Richards. So was Eddie Murphy using the "n" word. Thus, in your mind, that makes it okay for Chip "racist" Saltsman to use it in his quest for political power. Now we know where you are coming from.

Third, as a parody, the "humor" intended by it was nevertheless only funny to RACIST WHITE PIGS such as yourself.

Finally, two wrongs don't make a right. A pasty white cracker like Chip making fun of a black man by calling him a "negr0" is not funny. Its racist. And has no place in politics.
06:22 PM on 01/05/2009
Racist? And what is "cracker"? Hello, pot! Kettle calling....
02:39 PM on 01/05/2009
RNC is really trying very hard to gather all the non-white votes possible. LOL

Rep party has just become a Southern Old White Men's party. I suspect they will be pushing hard for racial hatred and devisiveness.

Sadly, I am begining to understand how political parties in third world countries work.

riiiiight. Let's see. Racially Disparaging our new President is akin to swearing? Ok then.

Will all of those accusing ALL Republicans of racism now accuse ALL democrats of racism now that Harry Reid is fighting the pick for the Illinois senate seat? Oh, that's right, when your side participates in racism, you cover your eyes and ears and say "no they're not". The song is not racist, listen to it, before you "judge".

The executives at Fox News should be ashamed of themselves. To allow that type of message to be flashed on the screen is blatant racisim pure and simple. There is no excuse for that at all. This kind of thing is childish and they should be hit with a huge fine by the FCC. What the hell is going on out there people?

Lets not forget that Liz Trotta on Fox News openly wished for Obama's assasination and Fox kept her on as an analyst. This type of thing is totally OK with Fox. There is a deep ugliness underneath their thin veneer of news and every so often it pokes through the surface and is clear to see. Watch the 14 second video of Trotta and be amazed that this is somehow allowable on Fox.
