Krugman: GOP Has Become A "Party Of Whiners"

In an editorial, economic Paul Krugman describes the Republicans as a "party of whiners":

As the new Democratic majority prepares to take power, Republicans have become, as Phil Gramm might put it, a party of whiners.

Some of the whining almost defies belief. Did Alberto Gonzales, the former attorney general, really say, "I consider myself a casualty, one of the many casualties of the war on terror"? Did Rush Limbaugh really suggest that the financial crisis was the result of a conspiracy, masterminded by that evil genius Chuck Schumer?

Read the whole thing. Krugman also touched on Gonzales' quote in a blog post this week, saying he was "having a vocabulary problem" attempting to describe "the kind of person who considers his mild discomfort the equivalent of torture, crippling injury, or death for other people."

Gonzales gave the description of himself as a 'casualty of the war on terror' in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, in which he discussed his plans to write a book on the Bush Administration.

"What is it that I did that is so fundamentally wrong, that deserves this kind of response to my service?" he asked the paper. "For some reason, I am portrayed as the one who is evil in formulating policies that people disagree with."

I strongly disagree with Krugman they haven't become. They have ALWAYS been the party of whiners and children. They were NEVER the grown-up party they have a few Presidents that they can be proud of like Lincoln he is the only one in my book I will maintain that he was NOT a republican.

All they do is whine whine whine and OBSTRUCT. They dont fix anything they just complain about what democrats do. Anybody who's slogan is small government, cut taxes and let the free market handle things basically is someone WITHOUT ideas. I honestly dont know why they bother running for office they dont believe in govenment being effective they just believe in them being reduced and small until when it comes to war then they can fight them in the name of defeating all that is communist although today its all that is terrorist. Anything that pose a threat to them having free for all greed. THen when they mess up they expect that same government to bail them out and spit on average people who are more vulnerable. They dont care about children. They balk at having to provide healthcare for them. Giving them decent schools, giving them breakfast. They have no soul they even expect vulnerable children to fend for themselves. Government should help NO ONE but them when they have let their greed consume them. This party needs to adjusts its philosophy and PRONTO because its going to die if it doesnt.

Let's not get too pumped up over this. It's fun to watch, yes, but I recall that after the 2004 elections, the Democratic Party was declared dead. Politics have a way of swinging around when you least expect it.

Some historians think the worst thing that ever happened to the US was Lincoln's insistance that the South be kept in the union. Actually, most northerners didn't give a rat's asss one way or the other, if the South seceded -- it was Lincoln who kept up the drumbeat to preserve the union.

As someone who was born and raised in the deep South, I believe it was better for the North to just let the southern states go.
