Economics as the dismal science? Not in some quarters.

In the midst of the deepest recession in the experience of most Americans, many professional forecasters are optimistically heading into the new year declaring that the worst may soon be over.

Am I the only one who thinks that if we got rid of the economist, MBAs, and psychologist we would be doing just fine?

Oh I forgot the POLITICIANS!

Nope.

Though I have known a couple of psychologists who were sensible folks. 8-]

They scare me EB... every week seems to bring a new phobia or mental affliction. We just "sucked it up" back in the day. To many pharmaceutical druggies around because them.

Are these the same geniuses who finally admitted we were in a recession.... a full year after the fact?

Oh, sure, summer, uh huh, recovery... you betcha!

Who the hell are these experts? Hey no jobs , no money to buy anything. The only time you hear from people like this is when they are right. When they are wrong, you don't hear from them again. There are alot of people we are not hearing from these days.

Here in Ohio we never recovered from the 2001 recession.

recovery will take 10 years plus. we are going to have another great depression.

USA is BANKRUPT.

The same economists who a year ago said that everything was fine!

IMHO, Reagan's illegal dismantling of the Air Traffic Controller's Union signaled the beginning of our current economic "malaise".

I couldn't agree more. Having been one of those it was difficult finding other employment because the economy went in the tank then also. Early 80s- recession-Reagan. 1987-stock market crash-G.H.W.Bush. 2001-recession-G.W. Bush. The market may have done well but workers didn't. Now we know why. Just trading paper doesn't float all boats. I can go back to when I was discharged from the Navy. Eisenhower. I could get a job but I kept getting laid off. The economy sucked then too. Last hired first to go. The only similarity in this kubuki dance is they all were Republican Presidents. Nixon had the war to help the economy. Bush's war didn't. All the industry fled offshore. Hell, they were buying rounds from Israel and others. No armor for vehicles. There is a shopping center where USS made nickle plate. Thanks to Reagan permitting steel dumping. Now it is auto 'dumping.'

poop in one hand and wish in the other. see which fills up first.

"some" economists. Whatever.

this is the same thing as a broken clock being right twice a day.

just because these morons get out ahead of the crowd and pay us lip service with this total pile of BS, doesn't mean they believe it themselves. All this is is nothing more then shameless self promotion. If they are right, they get more money and more clients. If they are wrong, they still get more money and more clients, just not as much.

smoke and mirrors, brought to you by the "we promote ourselves with BS propaganda institute of the gullible".

They did the same thing in 1930 and again in 1931.

Look... things are a whole lot different than 1929 in some ways, but the economic system is still thoroughly sickened by its diet of sugar-water. As long as "the guv'mint" continues to print $1+ million a MINUTE, literally creating it out of thin-air, there is never going to be a rugged, self-sustaining economic system that can provide for everyone. Nor is there going to be manifested the determination to (re-)create one.

We tried to strip all the "reudundancy" out of the world economic system; tried to push the "dirty jobs" to "someone else." Tried to pay them with "all those Dollars." And in so doing, we created a system that had no resiliency at all. No wonder it's breaking down.

The USA, of all nations on earth, should still be among the most-powerful ... industrially speaking. Yet in the last 50+ years it has poured its lifeblood into what is euphemistically called "defense," and it has mortgaged its own soul to do it. Nations must trade with one another, and as they do so, the trading partners must all be powerful -- not weak, and not weakened.

We can fix this. "We Can Do It!" But we must listen to the ghost of Dwight D. Eisenhower first. We must turn off the sugar-water spigot, and the fiscal irresponsibility that drives it.

I agree. Come to the Midwest. We've been in an economic depression for nearly 2 years in Detroit. Have these people ever stepped out of their ivory towers??

2009 will be bad and 2010 will be worst along with 2011. The only time the forclosures will stop will be in the second half of 2012. By then there may be nothing left to lose.

I'm not through living yet. But if I could be there to see the looks on the faces of Bush, Cheney, and the rest as some grand reckoning took place, it would be worth dying for.

Nothing has changed, and nothing will change, until confidence is restored in "the market" and it isn't going to be restored until or unless Congress moves to change the system.
