Analysis: US Media Coverage Of Gaza Invasion Largely Biased Towards Israel

Israel launched its much-anticipated invasion of Gaza on Saturday. For over a week, U.S. media had provided largely one-sided coverage of the conflict, with little editorializing or commentary arguing against broader Israeli actions.

Most notably, after more than eight days of Israeli bombing and Hamas rocket launching in Gaza, The New York Times had produced exactly one editorial, not a single commentary by any of its columnists, and only two op-eds (one already published elsewhere). The editorial, several days ago, did argue against the wisdom of a ground invasion - - but even though that invasion had become ever more likely all week the paper did not return to this subject.

I would say CNN is middle of the road, while FOX is pro-Israeli. (Big surprise!!) Unfortunately, my cable system doesn't have MSNBC, but will in a few months.

In the US the Jews have had a handle on the banking system and the media for a very longtime. You could stick a US flag in the center of a Israeli flag and it would be appropriate. Hopefully Obama will balance out some of this.

Bias towards Israel? Anyone with an inkling of intelligence, common sense or decency can see that this has been the case since the creation of Israel. The media is deaf, dumb and blind to criticism of Israel, no special study needed. If you lived in the conditions that the Palestinians live in, be lucky that a few bullshit rockets are the only thing Israel is getting. Israel is the most armed country in that region-paid for by the US taxpayer-no conspiracy there, second is Turkey and for the ignoramus who said that they are firing 4000 rockets a day at Israel, you're either lying or willfully misinformed. Those are US helicopters, cluster bombs,rockets and yes they even have nukes. So when you see the casualties just remember that we made it possible.

As far as the networks go Fox is pro-Israel all the way, CNN is leaning towards Palestinians, and MSNBC is pretty much even handed. What news organization is biased though?

CNN is not pro palestinians, they have a pretense they like to be of being even handed and fair but they have been nothing more but pro-9sraely inviting 3-4 spokespeople back to back, and hosting them in panels, with no mention of the other side and their thoughts or anti-war representatives.

The Palestinians have a PR problem. To be blunt, they're a bit stupid. There are soooo . . . many ways to pitch their cause and what do they do, lob these moronic rockets. Let me give it a try:

1) The Palestinians must obtain everything they get through Israeli brokers and bankers who make a killing with fees and tarrifs. Then there were the tunnels, which bypassed the Israelis. But now we have an invasion and the tunnels have been crushed. Happy Israeli merchants and government.

2) The blockade has stopped the flow of workers into Israel. Sad for Israeli business who need cheap labor. Sad for Israeli farms who need fruit and flowers picked.

3) Siege has been hard on settlers in Gaza. Hard to let supplies through for them, but not for Palestinians. Hard to protect them when Hamas soldiers are jumping around everywhere shooting mortars and rockets. Palestinians resent their swimming pools when they don't even have drinking water. Initial thrust of invasion goes straight through settlers inclaves! Settlers happy and not assassinate prime minister.

And just to be fair:

1) Hamas beat up Israel twice now in Lebanon. Rockets good for election but can't stop now or will look like wusses, even through there's no way they can win in Gaza.

2) Might as well shoot everything they have since it's all going to get destroyed anyway.
