I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Israel launched its much-anticipated invasion of Gaza on Saturday. For over a week, U.S. media had provided largely one-sided coverage of the conflict, with little editorializing or commentary arguing against broader Israeli actions.

Most notably, after more than eight days of Israeli bombing and Hamas rocket launching in Gaza, The New York Times had produced exactly one editorial, not a single commentary by any of its columnists, and only two op-eds (one already published elsewhere). The editorial, several days ago, did argue against the wisdom of a ground invasion - - but even though that invasion had become ever more likely all week the paper did not return to this subject.

Where are the reporters on the ground inside Gaza? Why are we only hearing reporting from the Isreali border or from the Egyptian border? When reporting is this uneven, something is wrong.

One has only to read the post here at huffpo to see there is a very vocal segment of Huffers who support the Terrorists. They blame israel for Hamas' cupidity. they blame Israel when Hamas rains down rockets on innocent Israelis. They blame Israel when Hamas provokes Israel into a reaction. Where were any of these terrorists supporters when Hamas was racheting up the violence with the expressed purpose of eliciting a ground response? Where were these terrorists supporters when Hamas callously put its women and children out as human shields? Hamas, Hizbullah, and Iran need to be defeated. and Israel has every legal right to exist and protect itself.

US media biased toward Israel? You think. The US government and media are so far Israel's ass it's beyond sad. I'm sick of it. All this coverage yet our own problems largely go ignored. Today they are making such a big deal over the 1 life Israel lost since this fighting started. Who gives a damn. What about the hundreds of civilian lives lost already on the other side. The women, men, and children that are getting caught in the crossfire. The media doesn't give a damn about that because they aren't from Israel. .

A good source of the coverage can be found at Al Jazeera English http://english.aljazeera.nett). Many of its staffers used to work for the BBC, CNN, NBC and others, and it's politically independent if you wonder.

Doesn't Geneva also say something about collective punishment?

Slap me with a wet noodle! (An 'analysis' was needed to determine the bias?)

Really? WOW it took analysis to achieve this. All you have to do is watch and listen for one minute to see how skillfully and sometime subtly the media copywriters are able to blend in the Is-rael PR statement in the news.

Pro or con, it doesn't matter. When you lob missiles over your border, somebody on the other side is going to lib missiles right back at you.

A great spectacle in the sport of track and field is the relay race. The race pits groups of four individuals against one another in a test of individual ability to compete/perform standalone and as part of a larger apparatus, which is the entire relay team. The connection between team members is the baton that is passed in a precise fashion from one team member to the other. The idea is that once a given individual leg of the race is exhausted, the runner hands off the responsibility and the effort to advance the cause of the team to the recipient of the baton. The last person to receive the baton is called “the anchor”.

The span of time that has been the development of the human species as a viable life force on this planet can be likened to a relay race. Each successive generation takes the baton from the previous with the goal of moving the species further along than where the handoff occurred. Thus far this has worked to move civilization from rudimentary existence to the “advanced” state of affairs that is contemporary life.

Using this analogy, one wonders how we, the current baton holder, are running our leg of the civilization race. Have we dropped the baton (Dark Ages), or are we increasing the distance from our more barbaric representation? How are we running? Is our performance such that this will prove to be the anchor leg, or will the race continue?

Time will tell.
