NEW YORK — The final note of Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign may very well be sung by Jon Bon Jovi.

The musician is performing at a fundraiser for the former presidential candidate as she tries to close out her campaign debt, which stood at $6.3 million as of last month.

The Jan. 15 performance at Manhattan's Town Hall is being billed as "a final evening in support of Hillary Clinton for President Debt Relief." Ticket prices range from $75 to $1,000.

The former first lady and New York senator has been working to pay down her debt to clear the way for confirmation as President-elect Barack Obama's secretary of state. Federal ethics rules prohibit Cabinet officials from actively soliciting campaign contributions.

Clinton wrote off $13.1 million in personal loans to the campaign.

Can anyone clarify this for me? I was under the impression that Obama said he would help Clinton out with some of her debt. I thought that was unusual, but I'm too young to know if it's happened in the past. Did the Obama campaign ever give Clinton money?

Obama/Biden team can only do so much in terms of fundraisers, or asking supporters to clear her debt. Contributing to him is different than contributing to Hillary and at the end of the day since her supporters couldn't or wouldn't, it would have been up to some of those who supported Obama to help Hillary out - I know I wasn't personally willing to help her debt out.

I've always loved Bon Jovi and have had great respect for the things they have done since the "big hair" days, but I have to say this is very disappointing. I know everyone has their right to voice their political opinion, but artists lose their appeal when they get too political. He's turned into a modern Barbara Strisand (?)

Kneedjerk, unfounded commentary.
The man has been stumping for Democrats since Gore in 2000. He's been vocal. He's been on the road performing during election seasons. He's also been smart enough to insist his concert stage is not the place to preach politics and goes far out of his way to make sure his opinions are only his (not necessarily the entire band's) and that if you pay for a concert ticket to a bon jovi show, you get a bon jovi show, not a political rally.
Maybe artists lose their appeal to YOU... but they're citizens too and have every right to support who they choose and can speak out how they like. And, the fallout - whatever it may be - is something they have to be willing to accept. But, if done intelligently and respectfully like Mr. Bon Jovi, fans of his who don't vote the same way he does don't have to feel disillusioned.

And you're comparing Jon Bon Jovi to Barbra Streisand? Back away from the talking points handbook... because that's a stretch even taffy could pull off.

Why do you need ANY reason to "hate" someone who has nothing to do with you? If you think he has no talent, why not just ignore him?

I wish I could've ignored him, but our philistine culture hammers its crap into one whether one wants it or not.

I am having this awful vision of her dancing on stage with him singing "living on a prayer" and them collecting $3.45.

Wow, she paid off $13.1 miillion herself and still owes $6.3 million? When her debt was $20 million? That means her 18 million supporters over all these months contributed only about $600,000 tops to pay down their beloved's debt.

So the Clintons wrote off a $13 millon loan to Hillary's badly managed, hugely expensive campaign? Where did that $13 million come from? Did it come from the outrageous "speaking and consulting" fees foreign business interests have paid Bill over the last 8 years? Does that make those fees questionable as illegal campaign contributions diverted through the Clintons's personal bank account. Does this mean that the Saudis helped finance Hillary's run for president? Has the FEC looked into this?

Hey, if anyone deserves scrutiny in terms of campaign funds, it's Obama, not Hillary. Why don't you, however, stop harping on the gal and help be a part of significant democratic change?

She is a typical politician. They never care how the money is spent because it's not their money. Politicians are parasites.

According to this report, $13 million of the money lost was the Clintons, so in this case your comment is quite wrong.
