I Like ItI Don’t Like It

STATEMENT OF PRESIDENT ELECT BARACK OBAMA

It is with deep regret that I accept Governor Bill Richardson's decision to withdraw his name for nomination as the next Secretary of Commerce. Governor Richardson is an outstanding public servant and would have brought to the job of Commerce Secretary and our economic team great insights accumulated through an extraordinary career in federal and state office. It is a measure of his willingness to put the nation first that he has removed himself as a candidate for the Cabinet in order to avoid any delay in filling this important economic post at this critical time. Although we must move quickly to fill the void left by Governor Richardson's decision, I look forward to his future service to our country and in my administration.

STATEMENT OF GOVERNOR BILL RICHARDSON

For nearly three decades, I have been honored to serve my state and our nation in Congress, at the U.N., as Secretary of Energy and as governor. So when the President-elect asked me to serve as Secretary of Commerce, I felt a duty to answer the call. I felt that duty particularly because America is facing such extraordinary economic challenges. The Department of Commerce must play an important role in solving them by helping to grow the new jobs and businesses America so badly needs.

It is also because of that sense of urgency about the work of the Commerce Department that I have asked the President-elect not to move forward with my nomination at this time. I do so with great sorrow. But a pending investigation of a company that has done business with New Mexico state government promises to extend for several weeks or, perhaps, even months.

Let me say unequivocally that I and my Administration have acted properly in all matters and that this investigation will bear out that fact. But I have concluded that the ongoing investigation also would have forced an untenable delay in the confirmation process. Given the gravity of the economic situation the nation is facing, I could not in good conscience ask the President-elect and his Administration to delay for one day the important work that needs to be done.

So, for now, I will remain in the job I love, Governor of New Mexico, and will continue to work every day, with Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish, to make a positive difference in the lives of New Mexicans. I believe she will be a terrific governor in the future. I appreciate the confidence President-elect Obama has shown in me, and value our friendship and working partnership. I told him that I am eager to serve in the future in any way he deems useful. And like all Americans, I pray for his success and the success of our beloved country.

Commerce, Housing and Urban Development, something or other.

One notes that Carter, the worst president in decades, was apparently not as good a carpenter as he claimed.

Isn't it comforting to know these are the people running your life? A Scandle here, a crisis there. I'm just glad to pay taxes, so my representetives can be paid 186,000 dollars a year while I struggle to pay for food. But thank God that 46% of my earnings are making life good for them.I mean, It has to be hard work, flying to DC on a private jet once a week to make make decisions that only benifit you and the billionare that bought your opinion. God bless America.

Thank you Mr. Richardson for making this quick and painless... A good example of putting Country first. Hopefully, all will go well for you.

It has begun. This will be the longest 4 years of our lives. I was hoping it would be funny, watching this administration crumble, but it is happening so FAST it is just sad and pathetic. The greed is what gets me; when is enough enough?? The ultimate culmination of narcissism, greed and apathy. Welcome to the Not-so-United States......

This is about the most ridiculous statement any one of reasonable thought could make. During such a time when our country is vulnerable on numerous levels, you would hope this Administration crumble? You should pray it does not unless of course, you have nothing vested in America.

It's worrisome when someone puts more faith in their government than they do the people being governed.

You are a scary individual indeed. I hope for the sake of our country that Obama does not fail. But, at the same time, I have no faith in him. His life's record is one of the worst of any person ever elected to our nations highest office. Moreover, he was put there by people who were completely unaware of his sorted political background.

I happen to agree with Patriot101 that this administration will crumble under its own weight. Likewise, I'm just as surprised that it's happening so quickly.

Are you trying to be a living proof of Darwin? What you say doesn't make any sense after 8 years of Bush and Cheney.

You call yourself patriot while hoping for your government to fail? Bush is bad and I hated him but I don't pray so that he'll fail because it's an insult to the system of democracy. You are truly an imbecille. Go educate yourself!

Let's bear in mind that Richardson hasn't been found guilty of anything, and as someone who has admired the mine over the years, I hope he hasn't done anything wrong. That said, I was in a way glad to hear this news. When people like Blagovich are caught on tape breaking the law and still hold onto power, it's refreshing to see a politiican nip a potential issue in the bud before it becomes an issue for others.

So now does Hillary resign her position as well? She also has a headline about a mall contract she pushed through right after the contractor gave a nice sum to Bill's foundation.

Is there anyone clean anymore?

Nope. Not even regular human beings are clean. I'm not clean, you're not clean. This, my friend is life. I'm glad Richardson stepped down. Hopefully the i.mbecile running Illinois will take a hint.

Republicans must be jumping for joy. Not that there's anything to this, but each time Obama is foiled (and/or a Democrat has to deal with some allegation, even the faintest of the faintest) there will be much celebration among them.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:40 PM on 01/04/2009

not sure he was foiled. It would've been seen that way if he was already in office. It doesn't matter if the Repubs laugh, GOBAMA!

Aw, come on! I thought we were the reality-based community. Does anybody really believe that there is a strong link between Richardson, and/or a key aide of his, and the contractor in order for him to tender his resignation?

Full disclosure - I've never been much of a Richardson fan anyway. I thought him the least of the eight Democrats who ran for the nomination.

But people who are "squeaky clean" don't turn down sought-after cabinet posts, even for altruistic reasons.

I get your syntax and I agree. And look at his prepared statement. "I believe [Diane Denish] she will be a terrific governor in the future." Why in the world would he put that in there?

But what tics me is how easy it is to take out a governor compared to Congress' refusal to impeach Bush and Cheney for war crimes and the abuse of power.

And look at Blagojevich. Patrick Fitzgerald is even willing to violate his office by providing the Illinois legislature with evidence for impeachment but he took crank bait on Cheney by accepting Scooter Libby while sitting over a baited hole.

There is no justice. Only power and money.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:41 PM on 01/04/2009

Why mention Denish? Because she was prepared to take over as Governor. Now she'll have to wait to run against Wilson when Richardson's term is up. (Or he's found guilty before then and has to resign.)

After all, that d**k, Manny Aragon, former longtime State Senator and failed president of Highlands University, which he caused to lose its accreditation, was recently convicted of kickback/fraud in the construction of a new state building in Santa Fe. His name is being stripped off of anything its on. Kinda like Saddam.

So, it could happen to the Gov, too, if he's guilty. All I've heard about since I moved here is how corrupt NM government is. After is, this state is different than any other state in the country in many ways. Corruption, unfortunately, is not one of them.
