He might be choosing carefully. A new president's first foray into the social scene in the capital can be heavy with symbolism, a hint of how the first couple plan to engage with unofficial Washington. Failing to do so could mean missing an opportunity to meet the press, make bipartisan overtures and advance the White House political agenda, as other presidents have discovered.

Obama is kinda busy right now.
I hope they give the beltway crowd a wide berth and stick to being "the people's president" and first lady. They also have two young children they will want to spend every moment with.
I can see them sticking to a tight circle of friends. Also, they have the girls, they aren't going to be out alot.
They are just as likely to accept a dinner out with any American Couple. Therefore I offer you Mr. President-elect dinner, any time that is best.
I cook some mean comfort food:)
Why should the Obama's have to play these games?
The Obamas should do fine as long as they don't have someone with a name like Muffie Brandon Cabot calling the shots.
