Can you imagine if this amazing true story was published today. It'd be an Oprah book club pick, Defoe would appear on her show, and then, well, you know the rest of that story.

The article says he hunted Pirates, i.e. Pirate Hunter, not Pirate as the TITLE on the front page suggest.

...on second thought, maybe he was a Pirate's Pirate?

If you're over fifty years old and have not read "Robinson Crusoe" I highly recommend it. I did, at age sixty after reading a recent review, and loved it.

He gets off the island, at which point most movies and comics end, at only one third way through a most exciting and interesting story.

Considering that it was written almost three hundred years ago, it's still a good read!

It is interesting to many people who find historical documents a fascinating read. True insight into the days of our past and what life was like back then is always fascinating.

Bad, misleading headline--as one poster pointed out, the "journal" is a book published by the author, who was not "pirate" at all, but a British seaman, sent out with two ships to patrol British waters for pirates, and who eventually was appointed Governor of the Bahamas. This "300 year old diaries" may be a rare book, but is one of several.

4th one is a done deal, with Johnny AND the HSM guy.

Johnny, you're great, and I loved the first one, but please, no more pirate movies.

"Piracy expelled, commerce restored"

Unless it's Spanish commerce.

Oh well, one man's pirate . . .

Okay, the headline and lead-in to this story are completely misleading, a la National Inquirer. What was discovered is a previously unknown copy of a book. The book may be rare, but there are other copies.

Even worse, the story says that this man was NOT a pirate, but rather an explorer who fought pirates.

I'm surprised Hollywood hasn't made a movie about this guy, especially considering the studios' anti-piracy stance.

It would star Tom Cruise. "Operation Man Friday is in effect!"
