I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Gwyneth Paltrow started off 2009 by emailing her latest GOOP newsletter, this one sharing her post-holiday cleanse, complete with menu and bowel movement advice.

"I need to lose a few pounds of holiday excess," Gwyneth wrote to subscribers. "Anyone else? I like to do fasts and detoxes a couple of times during the year, the most hardcore one being the Master Cleanse I did last spring. It was not what you would characterize as pretty. Or easy. It did work, however."

But, she isn't doing the master cleanse this time around. "As I do not wish to subsist on lemon water in the middle of winter, I asked my doctor, a detox diet specialist, for the guidelines he uses to achieve a good detox."

The cleanse diet, for which Gwyneth wrote a menu, considers of chicken, smoothies, and fruit and bans gluten, dairy, processed food, shellfish, condiments, sugar and more.

"I created this menu plan for a seven-day elimination diet. The shakes and juices are meant to be liquid meals that help decrease the amount of work your digestive system has to do. I will be suffering along with you to kickstart my year a bit lighter. Good luck to us all!"

She even gives some bowel movement advice:

"If your bowel movements get sluggish, you can accelerate things by drinking half a cup of castor oil or using a mild herbal laxative. Bowel elimination is paramount for correct detoxification."

Gwyneth is the worst dieter out there. I read here (http://www.projectweightloss.com/index.php) about her "WONDERful diet" and, wow, how obsessive can those inexistent extra holidays pounds be?!

Goodness, whatever happened to healthy portioned meals and usual cardio workouts to burn the excess fat? This whole practically avoid-the-4-food-group thing is one crazy fad. I need my nutrients.

Thanks for the detox tips, GOOPy, too bad about hawking products that are packed with chemicals that are known neurotoxins , carcinogens, hormonal screwer-uppers, and more.
To make the scent for commercial perfumes like Gwynni'es "Pleasures" , something like 500 artificial chemicals are used.
Detoz that, Girly!
I get sick when I've been around too many scented products. Rght now i have a rotten case of bronchitis brought on fromholiday travel that included staying at a family member's house for a week.
Guest bath: scented liquid soap, basket of potpourri, scented shampoo, conditioner, soap, towels laundered and fabric-softened with something spring fresh.
Guest room: bedlinens also spring fresh
Cinnamony-christmas scented candle.
Living room: more holiday smell candles, Febreze, more potpourri
Kitchen: scented dishwasher detergent and on and on
Also: a houseful of friends and family with their multifarious perfumes, soaps and hair stuff.
Then there's the smell stew of air travel.

It would be neato if she'd give up the gelt for the cosmetics industry and promote awareness of chemical overload in our ordinary household and personal products.

For kicks, look up the stuff found in Pleasures or other fave cosmetics, air fresheners, laundry products.
here are a few starters:

Good points--processed food is one thing, but processed everything else contributes to toxicity/inflammation, too. And don't forget all the antibiotics and diseased tissue and god-knows-what-else in meat.

Too many people wouldn't know natural if it bit them in the...nose.

Does Chris Martin buy air fresheners in bulk?

Isn't "cleansing" after the holidays a bit like binge and purge?
Instead of having to detox and roto rooter, just take good care of yourself to begin with!

Couldn't agree more.

I agree with what Gwynneth said re: the Master Cleanse. I was just arguing this point with people in my office today. I can not imagine how drinking the "lemon" water for 10 days could be good for your body. They agrued their points as they ARE on the Master Cleanse as I write this.

Here is the blog post THEY wrote that describes the Master Cleanse that Gywnneth mentions:

I tried the master cleanse but could not get past the first three days. Looks fine on paper for a lot of folks, but all that maple syrup with the lemon juice is not the best approach if blood sugar fluctuation is an issue.

Actually, maple syrup is a sweetener that does not affect blood sugar. That is why it is important to use real maple syrup. Being hypoglycemic, I can do the Master Cleanse with no problem.

If I did this detox, will I end up looking like her?

i am with you, Kalie; I'd eat, or not eat, and drink a quart of castor oil to look like her. she has always been my girl-crush. she has always been outspoken about health and diet and disease. it looks like it's working out for her. the only caveat; her friendship with madonna. madonna creeps me out.

is it pronounced "fleckenschtEEn" or "fleckenschtAIn" ?? *wink*

I'm not sure if you actually want to know the answer or are just referencing "Young Frankenstein" for some reason, but it is pronounced "FleckenstAIn." As it is my name, I can assure you it is correct. In fact, "Stein" is ONLY correctly pronounced this way. Check out Fleckenstein Castle online-pretty cool place!

I hope that she has her own bathroom, otherwise I will feel sorry for her husband.

Remember, this is the same woman that adopted a british accent after doing "Shakespeare In Love". I've said before, there are two kinds of good actors: those who over-think things and study, and those who are more of a "clean slate", empty headed sponges who can absorb the character and become the role . I think Gwyneth falls into that category.

if she didn't eat meat and other animal products, which have a tendency to slowly rot in your digestive system, gwyneth paltrow would not have to worry about cleaning out her ass
