UPDATED: Sherri Shepherd's Tense Flight With Jeremy Piven, Piven's Response (VIDEO)

UPDATE:

On Tuesday's "The View" Sherri Shepherd read aloud from a lengthy text message that Jeremy Piven sent her late Monday, following her story from Monday's show about being on a flight with an annoyed-seeming Piven (as recounted in second video clip below).

Piven wrote Shepherd, who had been on the flight with her boisterous 3-year-old son Jeffrey, that he was so sorry he did not recognize her and looks forward to seeing her soon.

Piven is quoted as writing, "I felt so foolish for not recognizing you... The last thing I would want to was offend you or your adorable son Jeffrey... I could tell... what an incredible mother you are."

After reading it, all the ladies let out an, "Awwwwwww...."

Monday "The View" returned live after two weeks for the holidays. Over the break, co-host Sherri Shepherd recounted, she flew home to Los Angeles with son Jeffrey, 3 1/2, on the same plane as a mercury-poisoned Jeremy Piven. Shepherd first recognized Piven when she boarded as the "a guy with the fedora, a little short guy."

She then imitated her son's vocal excitement at being on a plane.

"I don't know if that irritated look that he had was the mercury running through his veins or my son... He was just on the show, normally I would go 'hey, I'm Sherri Shepherd from The View!' But had this look on his face!"

"We just avoided each other."

She then apologized if her son had bothered the actor.

Sherri felt slighted because he didn't recognize her... Sherri is dumb as a stump, but Piven is even dumber for apologizing for nothing.

I worked with Jeremy Piven and he was incredibly rude and insulting to me. I'm not surprised at all that he did this. I'm sure his publicist made him apologize. I think he has low integrity.

Can I just say that I have read so many different articles/blogs, etc. that they don't blame Jeremy Piven if he was upset about the 3 year old being on the plane, and I am starting to get irritated on Sherri's behalf?

She didn't say that her son threw a fit on THIS flight (she has related in the past how he got upset on a flight - and she was properly mortified, etc.). She said he was EXCITED to be on the plane. She didn't say he was screaming this time. Those of you who expect a kid to be silent need to get a life. I'd rather overhear a toddler asking his mommy questions & excited than some of the topics of conversation that I've heard adults indulge in (sex talk, who is having an affair with who, endless complaints, etc.)

Lets take Piven as an example... one of my friend's proudest moments for her boys is when we were all traveling to Disneyland together (3 boys... at the time, all under 9). A man came up to us after the trip, right as we were collecting our bags. He told us that he was dreading the flight when he saw us get on with these three energetic boys. No the boys weren't totally silent on the flight - but they were well behaved, and this gentleman told my friend that her boys were delightful. He said that he'd fly with them any time.

There were a few times I would fly when my boys were very young. Babies and toddlers do cry and make noises, it's just what they do. When people gave me dirty looks, I just gave them right back! When people would make negative comments, I just negative comment right back! Some people are just plain rude and unhappy. That's their problem. Say what you want to me but don't dare take your anger out on my baby. I never put up with that cr@ p.

I understand your dismay. Sometimes we're in a position where our babies are too young to quiet properly. But I do hope parents with older toddlers consider others when out in public. I do love little ones but there's been many a time I've wanted to ask a person to please reprimand their children. They can be unruly and I've seen them get away with far too much. Like in the grocery when they scream continuously. If you can't leave then at least take them in a restroom and give them what for when situations begin to give headaches to others. Some parents haven't the good sense to keep their children in line. My pet peeve is to see a Mother with a child sucking on a pacifier. Not babies or young toddlers but older ones old enough for preschool. My God their teeth can be damaged by allowing children to have one for years. If they can walk, it's time to wean them off. I've seen what has to be 4 years and older kids with them and it's disgusting. The parents must be lazy and worse! To not see how ridiculous they look in public is repulsing. Those poor little ones with senseless parents might have problems later on, too. If this comment offends anyone, then you must be guilty so take the pacifier from your kid for goodness sake, huh?

I am appauled at the meanspirited comments on this log. This is a reflection of what a pessimistic society we have become and just how miserable some people are. These negative comments speak to a host of other issues emanating from the person who made the comments and not Sherrie or her son. They all need a spiritual cleansing and a lesson on empathy. Sherrie said her son was excited, not screaming and kicking uncontrollably! If I were a gambling person, I could take to the bank the probability that most of you with harsh comments, who, by the way, are of an age of accountability, conduct yourselves a whole lot worse in any given unconfortable situation. Examine yourself and see if you are in a position to be so judgemental.

Far too many people who fly often hate the idea of a child sitting near them. I say don't blame the children blame their parents. Parents can assure that children are on their best behavior on the airplane. When my daughter and I travel with her children. We have a plethora of snacks, books, art items and a dvd with great tapes....y­our children should not bother anyone....­I suspect in this case he was trying to avoid Sherrie more than Jeffery...­.I would...I think Sherrie has a child with some challenges. However I just dont like her tv. persona...

it was nice of him to apologize Jesus would advise him to apologize. it doesn't hurt to apologize. still, it's worthy of note: probably the first time someone had to apologize for how their face reflected their feelings. also, how about a websight that keeps tabs on how the ladies from 'the view' behave toward every person they encounter as they go about their private lives.. one of them rolls their eyes cuz a little old lady with a walker gets in their was as they're trying to hurry through a restaurant doo, log onto the sight and relate this.
