UPDATED: Sherri Shepherd's Tense Flight With Jeremy Piven, Piven's Response (VIDEO)

UPDATE:

On Tuesday's "The View" Sherri Shepherd read aloud from a lengthy text message that Jeremy Piven sent her late Monday, following her story from Monday's show about being on a flight with an annoyed-seeming Piven (as recounted in second video clip below).

Piven wrote Shepherd, who had been on the flight with her boisterous 3-year-old son Jeffrey, that he was so sorry he did not recognize her and looks forward to seeing her soon.

Piven is quoted as writing, "I felt so foolish for not recognizing you... The last thing I would want to was offend you or your adorable son Jeffrey... I could tell... what an incredible mother you are."

After reading it, all the ladies let out an, "Awwwwwww...."

Monday "The View" returned live after two weeks for the holidays. Over the break, co-host Sherri Shepherd recounted, she flew home to Los Angeles with son Jeffrey, 3 1/2, on the same plane as a mercury-poisoned Jeremy Piven. Shepherd first recognized Piven when she boarded as the "a guy with the fedora, a little short guy."

She then imitated her son's vocal excitement at being on a plane.

"I don't know if that irritated look that he had was the mercury running through his veins or my son... He was just on the show, normally I would go 'hey, I'm Sherri Shepherd from The View!' But had this look on his face!"

"We just avoided each other."

She then apologized if her son had bothered the actor.

she does change her appearance a lot from day to day...I might not recognize her either....especially if she didn't ave her usual "stage make up" on. There was a prominent local news anchor who lived in my neighborhood...and from time to time I would see her in the grocery store....she looked drastically different in person when she had on her regular make-up and wore her regular hair style then she did when she was fully "made up". So I think it could be possible to not recognize a TV personality.

Okay I'll have to give them both a pass on this one. Sherri's son is autistic and I do remember her saying how he cant get kind of out of control. Jeremy has a right to give the eye roll if he doesnt want to be bothered with a kid on a long flight to wherever.

Piven didn't need to apologize. She needed to keep her child in line. Why is it that so many parents think we are all there to enable the spoiling of their children? Teach your kid some manners! You are lucky all he did was look unhappy.

I agree, and the cargo hold in the next comment is an excellent idea. There are a lot of really horrible children out there, and it's 100% the parents fault. They think everyone should just love their little darlings. I don't, and I didn't allow my child to bother other people, I wish others would show people the same respect.

I am not objecting to the fact that he was annoyed by a misbehaving kid (if he was misbehaving). I am objecting to the fact that he found it necessary to apologize ONLY after he found out she was a celebrity. You or I would not have got an apology.

So, only after he found out she was a "celebrity" does he deem it important to apologize? Not that he really did much of anything wrong, but It is all so nauseating and fake. If he'd have known who she was then, would her child have annoyed him any less? It's like celebrities only recognize other celebrities as people who deserve their respect and goodwill. Gross.

Really. It had nothing to do with her celebrity. It had to do with her defaming his character over a spoiled child. He (JP) was sitting properly in his seat.

Luckily, for the non-celebrity travelers, she could not blast their good names. Some of them were probably even more annoyed. She should correct the child and not the adult, next time.

Oh Sherri, you poor thing. An ill actor didn't recognize you and your screaming child on a flight? Is it possible he longed for a nap? Is it possible you were completely self involved and your child was allowed to be overly enthusiastic? BTW, he didn't say he was sorry because he didn't realize she was famous, it was because he had recently met her when he appeared on the show. I agree that (for once) Piven didn't do anything to require his apology, but she didn't DEMAND an apology from him. SHE apologized to HIM, and his response was, "Well, if only I'd know you were famous..." Even when he is trying to be cool he is a do osh er.

If anyone is interested in India, Buddhism, Hinduism, meditation, spiritualism, etc, Piven did an excellent documentary (in High definition) where he travels around India and meets with monks/sages/gurus and participates in these beautiful traditional ceremonies... You guys should honestly look it up online!

I saw that, too, it was interesting and well produced. However, I work with a woman who is originally from Chicago, who knew Piven (and John Cusack) when she was a teen. She doesn't have much nice to say about either one.

She's sort of brainless and it seems intentional.

I generally only see clips of The View when they do something awful. I don't watch the show. I remember a clip where Sherri Shepherd was in some silly argument and ended up refusing to acknowledge that the Earth was not, in fact, flat. She ended up saying she "didn't know" or "wasn't sure" or something equally bizarre.

That's the first (and pretty much the only) thing I think of anytime her name comes up, which isn't often. It leads to a certain level of contempt for Ms. Shepherd.
