UPDATE:

On Tuesday's "The View" Sherri Shepherd read aloud from a lengthy text message that Jeremy Piven sent her late Monday, following her story from Monday's show about being on a flight with an annoyed-seeming Piven (as recounted in second video clip below).

Piven wrote Shepherd, who had been on the flight with her boisterous 3-year-old son Jeffrey, that he was so sorry he did not recognize her and looks forward to seeing her soon.

Piven is quoted as writing, "I felt so foolish for not recognizing you... The last thing I would want to was offend you or your adorable son Jeffrey... I could tell... what an incredible mother you are."

After reading it, all the ladies let out an, "Awwwwwww...."

PREVIOUSLY:

Monday "The View" returned live after two weeks for the holidays. Over the break, co-host Sherri Shepherd recounted, she flew home to Los Angeles with son Jeffrey, 3 1/2, on the same plane as a mercury-poisoned Jeremy Piven. Shepherd first recognized Piven when she boarded as the "a guy with the fedora, a little short guy."

Story continues below

She then imitated her son's vocal excitement at being on a plane.

"I don't know if that irritated look that he had was the mercury running through his veins or my son... He was just on the show, normally I would go 'hey, I'm Sherri Shepherd from The View!' But had this look on his face!"

"We just avoided each other."

She then apologized if her son had bothered the actor.

man, the last thing I want to see is a kid running and screaming on a plane - i realize kids are kids but parents need to have SOME control on them - bring them a book, crayons, a movie - something and have respect for everyone else's space. Kids are kids and they have a right to fly on planes too, but parents - please don't let them run all over the place screaming at the top of their lungs - its rude.

So he apologizes only after he realizes she's a celeb (sort of) and in the media.

So...what exactly did he do wrong again? Oh....give her a dirty look when her child was acting up.

Yeah, that sure demands a huge appology.

But did she demand an apology? Seems to me like she apologized to him and he said, "Oh, you were a celebrity?! Well, then I'm sorry I gave you a look."

I don't care for Sherri Shepherd and maybe her kid was out of control, but it seems to me like she was apologizing to him and he just came off sounding more like a j e rk.

Listen I've been on flights where all I could think was there should be a kiddie flight right behind this one, and when I land the first thing I'm gonna do is schedule an apointment to get the snip.

I am not a Sherri-phobe (nor am I a fan), but I don't think she was due an apology. Dude was just trying to get somewhere. I mean, heck, If he wanted to socialize, he'd have gone to a cocktail party. And If he'd wanted to socialize with kids, he'd have gone to a cocktail party given and attended by Republicans.

A) A text message? Seriously?
B) Why does S h e r r i Shep think that P iv e n would recognize her? Because she's on the The V.i.e.w and has had very minor roles as an actress? And would she really introduce herself to other celebrities just because she thinks she's one? I have a feeling celebs would rather meet fans than the 4th fiddle on a mediocre talk show. ESPECIALLY on a long plane ride with a small child.

"Why does S h e r r i Shep think that P iv e n would recognize her?"

She said that he's been a guest on The View, recently. Hahaha which makes it kind of funny that he didn't recognize her..

let me get this straight, Ms. Shephard gossiped about J. Piven because of a look? They are hard up for subjects about which to talk on that show.

And you're hard up for attention...

Why so bitter and childish? I have said nothing rude to you. I simply posited the idea that if Jeremy Piven's look on a flight that Ms. Shephard was taking is a major point of discussion, then The View needs to get more substantive subject matter.

You seem to be hard up for brains... j@ck a$$!!

I know, right. Do you know how many looks have been given to parents of unruly or loud children on airplanes?

No, she was simply telling about an awkward incident where things just didn't work out smoothly - the kind of thing that happens to everyone - and she was apologizing if her son had been an annoyance.

Oh hell, let's get real here...
I think this whole ridiculous story was REALLY all about Jeremy not recognizing Sherri! Period.
End of story.

She tried to embarrass him on the show, he apologizes and suddenly Sherri is his biggest fan again.
Pul-leeeze.

I don't know how many times I have been annoyed by a kid on an airplane. And I LOVE kids... they just don't travel well. lol. So let's give Mr. Piven a break.

There are celebrities on The View everyday. Was her random experience really worth telling? Who does that?

Yes, there are many many children world wide who would exhibit manageable behavior. What about reading to the child? What about engaging him in calm conversation thereby modeling a way for him to express his curiosity and enthusiasm?

What will she expect society to put up with in ten or fifteen years from him just because he’s her son. Wait until he gets to school. You’ll have weekly stories about who’s to blame from the child who sits next to him in class to the teacher (who doesn’t have classroom management skills according to her and the principal who scapegoats the teacher) to the store shoppers rolling their eyes.

When I was growing up, my mother often said, "no one feels the same way about your children as their parents." Which was a remarkably insightful statment. The problem with parents today is that they think EVERYONE should love and adore all their childs behaviors. No one realizes, or cares that not everyone thinks screaming , incessant blabling, and temper tantrums are cute. In fact, Parents, I promise you NO ONE FEELS THE SAME WAY ABOUT YOUR CHILD AS YOU DO! So stop forcing the situation on those around you!!!!

I don't expect people to love and adore my child the way I do. But, I do expect adults to remember that they, too, were once unruly children. Get over yourself. It's not all about you.

When you take public transportation, you have to tolerate all kinds of people.

Here'e a shock for you: It's not all about your kid either!

Parents would do the world a huge favor if they realized it isn't ALL about their children. There are others around, somehow that doesn't matter.

And when you take public transportion, other people have to tolerate you and you try to not make it any harder for them to do so.

I think that Sherri is the one who is "special needs" and not her son. She didn't even understand that it is 3 hours earlier in California.
