JACKSON, Ohio — Police say an angry 4-year-old Ohio boy grabbed a gun from a closet and shot his baby sitter. Nathan Beavers, 18, was hospitalized Sunday with minor wounds to his arm and side after the shotgun attack. Police say another teen was also injured.

Witnesses told police the child was angry because Beavers accidentally stepped on his foot. Beavers was watching the child at a mobile home in Jackson with several other teenagers and several other children.

Jackson County Sheriff John Shashteen says authorities are investigating. The child has not been charged.

I still have to wrap my mind around this one...

A four year old shoots somebody....

That kid's barely out of diapers and using a shotgun...

Pretty soon there will be two year olds sporting gensui knives in the local playground...

A four-year old could easily still be in diapers.

Only in the US of A. Too many guns and too many morons.

A shotgun? and the four year old wasn't pushed through the wall backwards?
Didn't break his shoulder?
Don't buy it...
it was one of the other kids.

Well obviously the fouur year-old in question is a member of a well-regulated militia necessary for the defense of a free state. His right to keep and bear arms against tyranical babysitters should not be infringed.

Seriously, I think that the parents might eventulally be found negligent and culpable for having left a fireable weapon where a child could access it.

Is a loaded gun a standard toy at this mobile home/play center?

He's 4, so obviously, he needs to be charged as an adult.

This is disturbing. A 4 yr old should not exhibit this kind of anger and wanting to reach for a gun.

Unfortunately. That's probably why the gun was loaded in the first place. And he went for the gun the second he got pissed. Like Daddy? And he knew right where that sucker was stashed, didn't he?

Wow that babysitter is lucky the kid didn't have on some brand new Air Jordans or something. He would have be DOA.

These stories are getting ridiculous. For irony's sake, though, I would like one of these stories to be concluded as justifiable use of force. It's a ridiculous idea, but it would be interesting.

On a more serious note, think about all the cases of teachers/babysitters/caretakers/daycare workers who are found guilty of serious abuse/negligence. I don't like handguns, but even I think it would be poetic justice for an abusive caretaker to end up face to face with a heavily armed preschooler.

The "right to defend himself" argument.

As horrific as this is, I still think it's another propaganda piece designed to scare the hell out of us placed by the gun control crowd.

Can you please explain to me why you have a disconnect between horrific and not wanting to do something about it?

Freedom entails something called RESPONSIBILITY. If you can't handle it, you forfeit your rights.

Obviously we have a horrendous problem..

What is your solution gun lover?

Jackson Ohio, over 88% white, and over 20% living below the poverty line.

If this shooting had happened in Compton, the PC talking heads would be all over these boards blaming society for this. Instead, since this is "poor white trash country" we get trailer jokes.

But these people are as much (if not more in a backwards kind of way) victims of society--especially the neo-con, religious rightwing society that uses them every four years in elections, then throws them on the scrap heap!

There's as much a feeling of desperation, fear and despair in these little towns as in any urban ghetto. Most of these people will never get out, and they know it. They are used as political pawns, divided by their fears and prejudices, and told to vote for the "Big Daddy" (like Bush) who will protect and defend them. Then they are forgotten, denied adequate educational opportunities, any chance for economic advancement, and yes, ridiculed by the rest of America for their plight.

These are the people Obama referred to who cling to their guns and god--because they believe that's all they really have. He Knew they're as much victims as any other oppressed group and need someone to give them hope and a way out of this multi-generational trap!

This shouldn't be an argument over gun control. This should be a Discussion about equal rights and the politics of Inclusion for all Americans--beginning with those who need it most!

Well, I hate to sound cold-hearted, but if they're stupid enough to allow themselves to be continually used in this way, then they get the government they deserve.

As you correctly pointed out -- these are the folks who cling to their guns and their religion. The Republicans are joined at the hip to the radical right-wing evangelicals, and because these poor, intellectually challenged voters cling to religion like a life preserver in the middle of the ocean, they vote for the Repubs every time, despite the fact that it goes against their own economic interests. Now, there's nothing wrong with voting to protect one's right to bear arms -- I'm in favor of that myself -- but voting for conservative Republicans because a voter thinks that's what God would want him to do, is ridiculous. The conservative politicians are smart enough to play that card, and the poor white rural voters are too stupid not to see right through it.

This country has been brainwashed. Our free press is a joke. Look at any media outside of America on issues like the economy or Iraq or Israel and the difference in reporting is stunning.

Our educational system in some states is at emerging 3rd world level. The plan right from the guys at the Trilateral Commission, has been to dumb us down. People who are too educated, too well paid, and with too much time on their hands just end up doing things--like protesting wars, passing civil rights laws, gaining freedoms. Can't have that!

What's on the tube--Violence and violence and more violence, and they use it to soften us up for things like unjust wars, rendition and torture. Play Grand Theft Auto. Is there a more anti-social game on the market? And all the war games--It's not a coincidence.

Just as people in any dictatorship, we've been handled. And the Poor--the = people everyone here enjoys mocking--are the most victimized of all. Just as there are old time communists in Russia who long for the days of Stalin or Kruschev, these blue collar tools are the product of generations of mind control. It is not genetic. It is programming.

Must be careful who we judge. And how. What knee jerk beliefs do you have that seem like your own, but could be all just a part of your indoctrination? These people are no different. They deserve our help, not our attacks.

PUt up a long response about brainwashing, but it must have been too radical for Huffy. Suffice it to say, we are handled in this country, and while there are a lot of these folks I'm glad aren't my next door neighbors, they are still Vicitms of a terrible injustice that keeps them down to use as political pawns. And they don't read the European newpapers.
