JACKSON, Ohio — Police say an angry 4-year-old Ohio boy grabbed a gun from a closet and shot his baby sitter. Nathan Beavers, 18, was hospitalized Sunday with minor wounds to his arm and side after the shotgun attack. Police say another teen was also injured.

Witnesses told police the child was angry because Beavers accidentally stepped on his foot. Beavers was watching the child at a mobile home in Jackson with several other teenagers and several other children.

Jackson County Sheriff John Shashteen says authorities are investigating. The child has not been charged.

Prosecute as an adult. Life in the pen. 'Cuz that's what we do here in America

Yeah make an example out of him. All the toddlers at preschool will start to walk the straight and narrow then.

Would this be the part of Ohio that Palin extolled as "the real America?"

"The child has not been charged." Well, thank gawd for that little bit of sanity! Now, I hope the owner of that weapon who left in reach of this child goes to prison for a couple of years to think about why you have kept you loaded gun away from the reach of a child. Oh, good great gawd, PLEASE!

BS! Charge him as an adult, and then go after the parents of the kid.

Before people start jumping down my throat, I was joking about charging the kid as an adult.

And I'll just bet his parents are card carrying members of the NRA

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:07 AM on 01/06/2009

I'll bet you are a card carrying, " oh the government and police will protect us with their guns, we don't need to protect ourselves, we don't need to be responsible, the government knows best." Give me a break. Until you have the facts as to whether or not they are members of the NRA why don't you go speculate somewhere else. Go down to Wall Street/NY where no one can carry a gun, you will be safe there among the crooked bankers and speculators.

Absolutely, because Lord knows that EVERYONE--including 4-year-olds--should have easy access to a firearm for "protection."

Do people like you EVER consider the social costs of your ideologies? Have you ANY concept of human life?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I could care less about gun ownership. Right now, I care more about the lack of parental responsibility in this country, that allows a child to get a hold of a gun. Where are the parents? Why wasn't the gun under lock? Parents need to stop acting like children and take freaking responsibilities!

The problem is that the left expect government to do everything for them including parenting. Schools are required to have written permission from me to take my daughter on a field trip to the Zoo, but if my 12 year old daughter is pregnant the left want to allow GOVERNEMENT FUNDED PUBLIC schools to be able to take my daughter to an abortion clinic with out my permission. They will not even have to inform me let alone call me. Once my daughter shows up at the GOVERNMENT FUNDED clinic they can perform an abortion on my 12 year old daughter without my permission. The sariest part is what if she was raped by her teacher who pushed her to having the abortion to cover it up??? It is the left that is taking rights away from parents so you have no right to complain!!!

Maybe we should begin upping taxes for NRA members every time something like this happens...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:12 PM on 01/05/2009

Maybe we should up taxes on the people who don't understand gun safety. It is not that difficult. Locking the gun away would be a start. There is more you can do to assure that a firearm does not injure anyone. I won't list all the ways to safely use a firearm, I will just make a boneheaded statement like "lets up taxes on law abiding citizens."

Not fair! I'm no fan of NRA's political agenda, but the vast majority of NRA members know how to store guns and keep them away from children. There is nothing in the article to suggest that the family affected had any NRA members. The NRA promotes gun safety, which this incident definitely does NOT reflect.

It does, however, point out one of the problems created by lack of firearms controls: people who do not secure their weapons may be unintentionally setting the scene for a death in the family. There is no mandatory safety training or testing required for gun ownership - any yokel with a few bucks and a valid-looking ID can go down and buy a gun and ammo. Not all gun owners are NRA members; maybe they should be!

And controls are exactly why many of us can't stand the NRA because they don't want any controls!

Exactly. This is not about the NRA, its about parental responsibility.

what dumb-arse leaves their gun out where a child can get to it? there are many laws that state you need to have guns in a lock box when there are children in the house. the parents should be arrested for endangering people. what daft gits!

Of course, most of these guns are handguns. So where would you (heck it's in the movies right?)
keep a gun? In your night table next to your bed right...where you can get at it right?

Of course, that's exactly where a young child can grab it....and that's when it happens:(

I call BS. A 4 year old got the shotgun, aimed it and fired it in a house full of teenagers and other children?

I'd say it much more likely one of the other teens did the deed and the child is being made the scapegoat.

A shotgun would be as large or larger than most 4 year olds.

This just doesn't make sense.

Interesting point. Shotguns are heavy. Even a .410 would be hard for a 4-yr-old to handle. And can we believe the parents kept a loaded shotgun in the closet? The closet? Loaded? Safety off? Every shotgun I've handled automatically puts the safety on when its locked, unless it's been disabled. Could a kid figure out the safety?

It would all be very unlikely in my reality, but there are some pretty stupid people out there. I'll bet there's more to this story.

You mean an unprovoked violent attack by a four-year-old?

Well, if he had a gun, I think running would work fine.

If the four-year-old didn't have a gun, I think a time-out would be appropriate.

In the extremely unlikely event of this occurring, try locking the door and calling the police like they do in civilized countries. And didn't I read somewhere that most firearms kept in the home end up being used against the occupants?
In fact, you better carry a gun with you everywhere you go in case of a violent attack, just what America needs, more armed paranoid cowards that jump at shadows.
