JACKSON, Ohio — Police say an angry 4-year-old Ohio boy grabbed a gun from a closet and shot his baby sitter. Nathan Beavers, 18, was hospitalized Sunday with minor wounds to his arm and side after the shotgun attack. Police say another teen was also injured.

Witnesses told police the child was angry because Beavers accidentally stepped on his foot. Beavers was watching the child at a mobile home in Jackson with several other teenagers and several other children.

Jackson County Sheriff John Shashteen says authorities are investigating. The child has not been charged.

this is madness.....but still hope he wasn't being sexually abused by that babysitter or his irresponsible parents....what kind of parents would have a 4 year-old shooting people?

YES! Decent parents would have taught better accuracy and fire control.

I was wondering if this person inappropriately touched the child to evoke suck anger.. Stepping on the child's toe? This whiole thing is extremely fishy. I am not one for conspiracy theories, but this is beyond reason!

Have you much experience with four year olds? Try getting one wound up and then putting the brakes on sometime, they don't get the whole impulse control thing.

I don't doubt for a minute this kid, in a pissed off fury, toddled into Dads closet and dragged out the shotgun to teach the sitter a lesson. The sitter should be thankful the kid wasn't a good shot.

It's like they say -- Guns don't kill people. People who buy guns kill people.

For all of the NRA's propaganda about training sessions, well-informed owners, etc., there are just enough idiots out there for gun ownership to be dangerous to the rest of us.

I think you've hit the proverbial nail on the head here..
There are just enough idiots out there to make the world very ugly.

You guys can make jokes about this...But, this situation (loose regualtion) with guns is completely whacked. And we (America) are supposed to be the beacon of higher intelligence, democracy, laws, civility and all that other constitutional dogma...Right. America is behaving--more and more--like a third world, backward, banana republic. The pathetic upshot is the laissez-faire reaction to these escalating events. And before someone suggests I move to Rwanda or Darfur....I've travelled all over the world, and when I no longer have to take care of family memebers, I will moving to Canada and brave the freezing weather. They have their warts, but these folks are far more civilized...

Thanks for the welcoming words! Back in the day when I lived in LA, I used to party in Vancouver. Always had a great time...Beautiful city. Would move there in a heartbeat. Only thing...I heard real estate prices soared through the stratosphere..

I remember a well known person who moved his family to Canada and promptly became the victim of a mugger.

Rus, I do hope you will stay though:)
What happens when so many good Americans leave (just like our jobs have) then those of us who can't leave have to face the idiots alone:(

Peace my friend:)

The question is have the parents been charged? THEY are the ones who left a loaded gun where a child could find it - or knew where it was.

That is SICK beyond belief. Lock them up!!

Like others have mentioned, this sounds a little hokey to me. I suppose it is possible for a young kid to fire a shotgun, probably, "from the hip" as they say, but the kick from it is something I don't think a 4 year old could deal with.

Who said it was a shotgun? The article refers to a 'gun.'

The article uses both terms, gun and shotgun, it's short, re-read it.

The NRA released a statement saying that had Nathan Beavers been armed, he could have defended himself by shooting his assailant.

Wonder where the child bought the gun. Oh, I get it. It probably
belonged to one of his parents. No, a parent would leave a gun
unlocked in a house. Oh, I'm so confused.

I agree with one of the comments that a 4 yr. old couldn't really do this. Perhaps he had some help. Did his parents teach him how to shoot? Perhaps the older kids there did it and blamed the poor 4 yr. old. It's all speculation, but hope we get the facts. If the kid did it, the NRA and media should hang their heads in shame for making guns so attractive to kids without offering extensive prevention and compreshensive safety and education programs.

America loves it guns as much as its cars. It is a country of ironies. Most NRA members are Republicans and most of them are PRO-LIFE, but they care much about their guns as much as they care for their own kids.

Guns are meant to kill people. Period.
