Pete Souza: Former Tribune And Sun-Times Staffer Named Obama White House Photographer

Photojournalist and NPPA member Pete Souza has accepted the position of official White House photographer for President-elect Barack Obama, he told News Photographer magazine tonight.

Souza received the offer for the position from Robert Gibbs, the new president's longtime spokesman who is also Obama's incoming White House press secretary.

It won't be Souza's first time in the Oval Office. He was also a White House photographer during President Ronald Reagan's second term.

I am very disappointed, it seems to me that Obama would have given the nod to some compitent black photographer!!! He is a bad as members of the black causus who gave the job of doing an MLK statute to an asian astist...black folks juts don't know how to reach back and pull there own up...it seems we are very trained and we know how long the leash is...

Huh? So Obama selecting Eric Holder as the first AA Attorney General doesn't count? And the fact that he has more AA Females in Cabinet and senior adviser roles don't count either, huh? This is a Chicago photographer that Obama feels comfortable with. Let him select the photographer he wants and don't expect him to hire an AA every time for every position.

Wow you have some issues, some things aren't black or white. As an AA I'm extremely happy that an Asian person (or in this case a white person) would like to honor the contributions of ppl like Dr. King. It wasn't so long ago that ppl didn't care.

i'm a huge fan of black and white photography. there's a guy here in chicago that shoots weddings in black/white, and they are the best wedding photos i've ever seen. hopefully the new w/house guy will use black and white more often. creates a great mood in the shots
