Josh Brolin: Russell Crowe "An A-hole"

Josh Brolin is one of my favorite actors because he speaks his mind. Last night at the New York Film Critics Awards dinner, at which Brolin won Best Supporting Actor for his work in the drama, "Milk," Brolin stole the show with his candor.

For one thing, he called Russell Crowe, his co-star in last year's "American Gangster," an "a-hole." Oh yes, he did. He said, after Sean Penn introduced him, "Quite an actor, Sean Penn. And not an a-hole like Russell Crowe." He then repeated: "Like Russell Crowe."

He didn't have any nice words for New York Times theater critic Ben Brantley who reviewed him in a performance of Sam Shepard's "True West."

"I hate that motherf-----," Brolin says, "And I don't think he's a good writer."

Both Josh Brolin and Russell Crowe are fine actors. Thanks to all the tabloids, I , as a member of the entertainment-viewing public, know more about these people than I ever wanted to know. I just want to sit anonymously in the darkened theater, enjoy the show, and eat my popcorn. I don't need all this other mess.

This is the problem with our society ... there is a utter lack of politeness ... using words like "a..hole" and other obsenities is perceived as a great thing, something to be admired ... what a culture we live in.
What happened to the old saying "if you can't say anything nice about someone, don't say anything at all"?

I agree. Besides, it's unprofessional to dis a colleague in public. Like the public dust-up around Pivens, public spats hurt the profession, no matter how justified the ill feelings.

So, for no reason (at the time), and without context, he calls another actor a name behind his back and then recants it later, he "tells it like it is"?
