I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Social conservatives and pro-life activists are mobilizing against President-elect Barack Obama's pick Monday for the No. 3 Justice Department job, a lawyer who aided the effort to remove Terry Schiavo's feeding tube during the landmark right-to-die case four years ago.

It is unusual for special interest groups to wage a fight over a sub-Cabinet appointment, but conservatives eager to press the Republican Party to mount some form of opposition to the emerging Obama administration say Thomas J. Perrelli's resume as a private lawyer and his appointment Monday as the nation's associate attorney general may provide the rallying cry.

Perhaps in the sad case of people in commas who relying solely on life support systems to live - it IS "God's will" that, as Christians say, "the patient goes 'home' to God."

Perhaps, WE are committing a s/in if we do not let "God's will be done" by keeping patients on breathing tubes and NOT allowing the patient to go "home" to God.

In Jes/us' time there were no life support systems - people, like Schiavo, would have DI/ED in Jes/us' time - unless Jes/us touched them & healed them.

In our time if we starved our pet dog to death like Terry was we would be put in jail. So in this country you can starve your wife to death but not your dog.

Mobilize away! It's a free country again.

Social conservatives and pro-life activists want to tell others how to live. I believe you are the one who will have to answer for your sins, not them. May be they should go read the Bible, and just may be for once, they will comprehend. They have no right to judge others.

Liberals and abortionist want to tell us what to believe and think. When our standards are different we are characterized as stupid neowingnuts who can't think critically. They want to take away our free speech.Just because I read the Bible and have a basis for moral standards my views should be excluded from government. They even claim we have no right to judge others.

Well that is wrong!!!!!!!!!

If we see someone beating their child in a park should we let it continue because we have no right to judge others?

If we see someone putting on a ski mask in front of a bank should we ignore it because we have no right to judge others?

Should we even refuse to serve on a jury because we have no right to judge others?

Absolutly not.

We make hundreds of judgements every day. So what do we use as our standard? The Bible gives standards that no person can achieve but everyone should strive for.

So the real question is what is the basis of your standards? Are they standards or do they change depending on each persons feelings? Are there universal rights and wrongs? Are the standards based on what feels good or what is right?

Before you spout off a quick knee jerk answer really ask yourself what are your standards based on.

It's so nice to be on the winning side for a change. Go Obama, appoint decent lawyers to Justice.

There's no better endorsement in my mind than the rage of (so called) pro-lifers.

So all of the Republicans now praising Obama for being somehow better than they anticipated is making you uneasy?

Rmetz74's comment has nothing to do with the professed relief expressed by Republicans who had been lead to believe that Obama was a terrorist Muslim. The critics of the Justice appointees are dead-enders who don't accept their loss of clout.

Um, no.

In fact, it makes me very happy, because it's yet another example of Obama doing what he said he'd do. He said many times before the election that of anyone, Progressives would be the most upset with him when he first took office, because he actually does put country before party. That's part of what I like so much about him.

Not that that had anything remotely to do with my comment.

I wonder how much longer the pro lifers are going to keep supporting a Republican party that hasn't done a thing for them.

Simple math...
Since Roe V. Wade, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George HW Bush and George W. Bush have had the ability to seat SC judges for a total of 23 years.

23 years during which they have changed nothing in this regard, yet the Republican party still runs it's campaigns with the same empty promise time and again.

You gotta love the hypocrisy of it.....

There's no hypocrisy in it. They have no intention of doing away with it, b/c they know they've got a lock every election cycle on the pro-lifers. The Republicans know full well these pro-lifers are stupid, don't think for themselves, and are uncompromising. (Unfortunately for the top Republicans, the majority of America is increasingly not falling for their tricks).

Remember, a lot of these die-hard pro-lifers can't think critically, outside the box to begin with, so naturally they won't figure it out their being used.

It's about money. Fund raising. As long as people keep mailing in checks to stop abortion, these pro-lifers will continue their ridiculous effort to criminalize abortion. Not prevent abortion, because they can't accomplish that by force, but send abortion back to the dark alleys where it is unseen until a corpse is found or a woman is taken to the ER. Note that many anti-abortion advocates are also in the adoption business, and they want more products to sell.

These are not pro-lifers.

They are ANTI-CHOICE.

oops. of course, it's the wash times nutrag.

President-Elect Obama should hearken to the advice of socially conservative Democrats to create a strong, socially conservative and economically liberal Democratic Party that can withstand Republican attacks. This is the type of true progressivism that America desperately needs now, not the false progressivism that has weakened the Democratic Party for the past four decades.

I would agree with this with the provisio that "social conservative" policy means focusing not on fruitless battles to recriminalize abortion, but instead on ways of reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies. I think the US could learn a lot from the Dutch on social matters. They have the lowest abortion rate in the world.

Funny isn't it. All these years this bunch never worried that the Justice Department was entirely staffed by Regent "University" graduates but suddenly they're worried about bias.

Time to stop whining wingnuts. In case you still haven't realized, you lost.

Obama IS Pro-life...

he is just not AGAINST a woman's right to choose......

I really do not think that abortion is the answer to a pregnancy

However, I will not apply my beliefs to the entire US population.... It is not my place and it isn't any of you radical right fringe's place to determine it.

While you abhor abortion, you solidly approve the killing of innocent children.... be they Iraqi or Palestinian....
Get some balance

At this point, why should they be worried? He'll probably consult Rick Warren before making a final choice. You think the "reaching out" is over? Do you really?

Actually, I hope PE Obama NEVER reaches out to others with a different view or ideology. I hope he'll be just another Bush who'll only surround himself with people who think like he thinks or people who don't think at all, and agree with him on every issue. I hope he'll follow Bush's example, and be the President for SOME Americans, rather than ALL Americans. I hope he never engages with anyone who holds views that he abhors, because everyone knows that abhorrent views are contagious. I hope he will place barriers between himself and those whose faith beliefs and/or partisan allegiance (past or present) differs from his own, because how can he possibly be MY President if he's THEIR President too, and if he even tries to be THEIR President, then he's lost my support forever because that's not why I voted for him. I voted for him to be MY President, and to hell with everyone else! Finally, I hope that PE Obama will avoid, by any means necessary, the right-wing ditch that Bush drove us into, and drive us straight into the left-wing ditch instead. In other words, I hope PE Obama will be just like me: petty, vindictive, closed-minded, small-minded, self-serving, intolerant of anyone who doesn't agree with my cause, and infinitely silly.

Well, when someone brings in a misogynist like Warren, what can be said of the choice? There is no choice in that action. Warren is Warren, and he is laughing all the way to the bank.

These uber pro lifers make me laugh, they are so quick to fight for the life of someone who has no life, someone who is brain dead, but they support in most casses us going to war, they don't care about life, they just want a cause, something to bring the pathetic lives meaning.
