Vail Chairlift Accident Leaves Man Dangling Pantless (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 2/6/09 Updated: 5/25/11

Vail

If you think people laugh at your skiing skills then think again. A man was a put into a precarious and undoubtedly embarrassing position while skiing with his child at Vail mountain last Friday.

According to reports:

the chairlift's fold-down seat was not in the correct lowered-down position - causing the man to partially fall through the resulting gap as he attempted to board the lift.

He was prevented from plummeting to the ground below by his right ski, which became jammed in the ascending lift.

I don't see what the big deal is. This happens to me all the time. They start getting the rescue sled out when they see me get on the lift.

If he was hanging upside down, why were his pants down past his knees? I'm confused.

He should have been wearing long thermal underwear - as cold as it was.

though the skier turned out okay, he did have a large crack.

Showing this is unnecessary. It is unkind.

you guys....the Vail article is bad...get it off...show a little decency.

I'd sue the pants off Vail for this accident....

Lucky for that guy that he kept his pants on. (or part of them)

Anyway, joking aside...it could have been a real tragedy...
his son must have been traumatized while this was happening,
thinking that his father might fall.

He should get paid for all the pictures being shown of him.

This guy survived one of the most embarrassing situations imaginable. I'm sure glad it wasn't me, although it could have been.

Yeah...that REALLY sucks. It's one of the few times one might prefer to fall to his death...at least while he is hagning upside down for an entire lift ride with his pants at his ankles. I'm sure he was happy to be alive once he got upright and his pants back on. They will laugh about it later.

It wasn't for an entire ride or the people in line would not have shot pictures. It happened when the people got on the lift, at the bottom (!) of the hill. They stopped the lift but it took time to be able to back up the device in order to get this guy down.

Just when I thought of getting on a chair lift again:)

Poor guy! I am glad he is still alive; it could have been much worse. Next year he will be the new owner of the place.

naw, the owner is probably a bunch of rich stockholders, the manager of the lift might get canned. Definitely the lift attendant is looking for another job.

I knew there was a reason why I get motion sickness in ski lifts. Funny that its the only time where that happens. Someone is looking out for me.

In this day and time anything like this is bound to get plastered all over the net. I can see it being edited for use as icons on forum boards everywhere even as I type.
