Anne Hathaway To Obama: Explain Rick Warren

Anne Hathaway spoke her mind about Barack Obama on the red carpet at Tuesday night's Palm Springs Film Festival.

There to accept an award for her role in "Rachel Getting Married," Hathaway talked to E! about what she expects from a President Obama in 2009.

"I expect him to explain that choice of Rick Warren," Anne said. "I don't get it. All my friends and I were trying to figure it out, but we just can't. So I'd love that. But other than that, I expect nothing but the best."

What's to try to figure out about Rick Warren? No need to "sit around trying to figure out".
He offended just about everyone that has a brain, a heart and a conscience.
It was a bad political choice the transition team and inaugural team made by thinking it would unite....
but it divided.
And Obama still doesn't "get it". He defended the choice and brushed it off. I don't believe they anticipated the hostility people have with being compared and grouped with pedophiles.

Maybe Warren made the problem worse by making the comments he did after the fact, but then again there really is no correct way to explain why you don't agree with a whole group of peoples' existence, is there?

why would she even mention God (in this clip) if she doesn't know who he is? This poor girl is so lost and shouldn't be carrying her baggage in front of the world. What kind of role model is she for our young women?

Pastor Warren has done more for humankind and the World moreover, than she can even begin to imagine. She and her airheaded comment doesn't deserve the attention she is getting. Maybe she needs to explain to us why she would perpetuate such hate in making a comment so publicly. She better get some media training FAST! Until then, my friends will be boycotting anything to do with her.

All we can do is pray for peope like her, dkuzo9 and moka11, who obviously don't know Rick Warren's work, don't understand the Bible and the millions of people who do get it. I commend our new President for his smart choice!

Because she brought an issue to the forefront. This should not be about Hathaway. There are legitimate questions about the Warren selection. As stated early - I think there are plenty of legitimate reasons for reaching out to the other side of the aisle. But does this elevate the anti-homosexual agenda at the wrong time, is this the right forum, is this a true attempt at bipartisanship or is it political posturing, etc., etc.? We don't REALLY know, and it is worth discussing calmly and rationally.

By the way, it was a five second sound bite. Why are her critics so up in arms over this. The comment was mostly positive, and her "criticism" was relatively benign.

Judging are you? I am a devout Christian. But the carrying on over Warren is beyond the ridiculous. My beef if you call it that with the GLBT is the fact that they've completely ignored the fact that the Reverend Lowery who is giving the benediction at the end of the ceremony is in fact supporting full marriage for the GLBT community not just civil unions. So their uproar about Warren vs hardly a whisper about a man who Obama has chosen who supports their cause. A week after the inauguration no one will remember what Rev Warren said.
