I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Fantasia Barrino - who faces the loss of her $1.3 million home here in a debtor's auction set for noon Monday - is apparently ignoring the looming legal threat, officials told The Post yesterday.

The inspirational "American Idol" winner owes a Florida credit company $65,000 - money she borrowed in 2006 to pay back taxes she owed the IRS.

The singer made a $10,000 payment in August 2007. But she never paid the rest, so the company won the right in court last month to auction off her house for the balance.

She spent it all. A few months ago I saw a piece on her new digs, there were people everywhere, she was taking care of everyone. Beautiful home, beautiful cars...PARTY, PARTY, PARTY.....I remember thinking at the time, GIRL YOU'D BETTER SLOW DOWN, YOU'RE MOVING WAY TO FAST.
Easy come, easy go.

She sounds more like someone who could care less. And it appears she borrows money not for the stated purpose but rather to maintain a lifestyle away from her house. Don't know her but if she is borrowing money and not paying it back nor using what she makes for what it is intended (pay back creditors FIRST) then she sounds more like someone who has a sense of self entitlement with no sense of responsibility.

As for lottery winners the horror stories are all the same, buy stuff they don't need, relatives and friends show up all the time with hands out and no intention of ever either repaying or not coming back for more, and spending the money nonstop with no regard to how fast it is disappearing.

The worst was a story of a couple who won 40 million and went through it in less than five years and ended up living in an apt and OWING MONEY. They got taken to the cleaners by con men, really bad investments and hands out "friends".

On the other hand I've read stories about those few who do really well and smart with their money. My favorite story is the young man with a record in TN or KY to won 26m and after too many buds showing up with hands out moved to Florida where he settled down in a nice mansion and invested money and cut off all ties to everyone but close family.

Remember Fantasia "A fool and his money shall part".
It is apperant this young woman don't have a clue about managing money and she don't have the basic intelligence to hire a trusted money manager to make sure her bills are paid.

I'm amazed at how much celebs make though. I was reading where Lucille Ball died and left her children a $1 mil a piece. Her daughter said her mother spent what she made while she was alive. That's a good thing. Who says rich parents have to leave their heirs ANY money? However, I thought Lucy should've been megarich with with all those hit TV shows and owning a major studio. She was making $4,000/month back in the 40s!!!!

She needs to hire someone with integrity to keep her on the right track with finances. Of course, a number of people need this but they are overwhelmed by the instant celebrity and money. That's why they get in tax trouble or behind with payments.

Wait isn't this her 2nd house that's in question. I don't think this is her main residence. Well anyhoo, if she is ignoring the sheriffs she clearly has no intention on paying. Don't tell me she can't pay $65K because she doesn't have the money. She just doesn't care.

I think when anyone gets rich, or have fame fast -- they need to get a trusted accountant and talk about what you can spend and what you shouldn't spend. Who you should give money too, and who not too. These are the pitfalls of being poor or avg. and then not knowing what to do when you have money coming in. So sad.

If I ever made this kind of money the *first* thing I'd do is hire a laywer and then an accountant. And then another lawyer.

The only problem is in this day and age, you don't know who you can trust. Look how many celebrities have lost millions due to their managers, accountants, investors!
How do you know who you can trust? There's no class that teaches that in school!

problem is alot of stars never had real $$$$ so they never learned how to manage. You don't have to budget if you're just trying to keep your baby fed and clothed. You don't have to worry about the property taxes and such when you never owned a home. so fantasia has gone the way of mc hammer, tlc, toni braxton and others... (I can't think of any white folks at the moment) who had a rags to riches story and then couldn't or wouldn't manage what they had earned after they became a star. obviously, she has not been living in her means.

Look up the history of lottery winners.

I think education is more at play then being poor. I was poor, but I would know how to handle a lottery win.
Most the people who spend it fast are poor adults too, which almost always equates to poor education (ergo, no good money as no good job).

Fantasia?...................Fantasia?

You can't blame this on Idol... or how she rose to fame. Most "poor" people I know pay their bills (or try to)... so the fact that she grew up poor and got quick rich... isn't an excuse either. If she's ignoring the sheriff's phone calls or knocks on her door... it's because she doesn't plan on paying. Take her house. She obviously could care less.

This is a good example of what happens when "stars" are churned out via ridiculous means.

Move on out, Fantasia.
