Jeb Bush To GOP: Don't Attack Obama

In an interview with the LA Times, President Bush's brother Jeb explained why he isn't running for Senate and asked Republicans to go easy on the new president:

Still, the former governor said he would continue to advocate for conservative ideas, and he offered a bit of advice to fellow Republicans: Don't target the new president with the same kind of partisan attacks that he said Democrats had hurled unfairly at his brother -- attacks that he summed up as "Bush-hating."

"The opposition should be about ideas, and not what my brother suffered through in the last eight years," he said. "I don't wish that on President Obama."

Bush said he had been impressed so far with Obama's appointments and called the president-elect someone who is "smart, disciplined, not rash."

On Sunday, former President H. W. Bush said that he hoped Jeb would run for Senate in Florida and one day, for president. The younger Bush son announced on Tuesday that he would not run. He said his decision wasn't based on politics, but on his "personal journey."

You might want to revisit your theology. God does not "force" or "make" anyone do anything-- That's not His job. We were given free will to determine our own destinies. To deny us that gift, the ability to reason and make our own choices should be considered a mortal sin-- admittedly one that many (most) religions have comitted over the centuries (or even millennia).

And I'm still a little annoyed at Bush for his complete and utter failure to keep us safe for the first year he was in office, in spite of numerous intelligence reports that should have been enough to warn us of what was coming. "bin Laden determined to strike in US". "Unusual number of arab nationals taking flying lessons (in large multi-engine aircraft)". "There may be a plot to hijack planes and crash them into buildings".

All three were perfectly valid reports that paint a very, very good picture of what happened Sept. 11th, all three were reports that made it into various levels of the US government, but apparently never crossed the same desk.

It makes me sick that every time a Republican tries to be bipartisan, and tries to make a genuine gesture, he is ridiculed by the left. The Democrats are always talking about a desire to put aside partisan antics for progressive cooperation, but when the Republicans do attempt to work with Democrats, they are usually declined and belittled. This new Democratic majority that has taken over Washington has express NO desire to work with Republicans- much less even acknowledge them. The Democrats have been very divisive and full of themselves after their November victories, and this has saddened and frightened me. Oh well, the Democratic majority in at least one house will be over in 2010.

Ok, I'll give you Cornyn, but why should Coleman concede? He has every right to defend his seat. Franken didn't concede when Coleman was leading in the first counting of the votes, why should Coleman? The Minnesota constitution states that he can file to contest the results. That is procedural. Especially with only a little more than two hundred votes separating the two. That's a razor thin majority, especially considering the irregularities that occurred in the recounts as well as the general election. Reports of hundreds of votes found in the trunk of a car, as well as reports of hundreds of questionable votes from democratic-leaning areas being counted while hundreds of equally questionable votes from republican leaning areas being denied seems suspicious. And this is in addition to reports that many votes were counted twice in the recount. The whole election is a mess should be investigated. You wouldn't want to disenfranchise anyone's vote, now would you?
