Hannity Picks Al Sharpton To Be His New Colmes For Show's Premiere

The new Alan Colmes-less Hannity premieres Monday with frequent Fox News guest Al Sharpton filling the liberal seat on Sean Hannity's newly christened "Great American Panel."

Rep. Michelle Bachman (R-Minn.) will fill the seat on the right. (And she should have plenty to talk about given the Senate dispute in her state between Al Franken and Norm Coleman.)

Fox and Hannity will be continuously looking for the biggest nimrods around to guest on the show. Then when they show what true ignoramuses they are, Hannity will look like a Rhodes Scholar. His radio audience will have orgasms over the GREATNESS of their hero and Hannity's website forum posters will be falling all over themselves about how Hannity handed his guests behinds to them!

although hannity again drew his heterosexuality into question by not inviting star parker, michelle bachmann is poised on the verge of stardom, by now hot babes with simplistic world-views are an identifiable right wing type. they generally marry or date millionaires while chirping about individual responsibility and self-reliance. now that the political situation has been redeemed, they are a welcome diversion.. and sean is perfect as the frowsy, beaming houscat. much as MSNBC has become the political disney channel; fox is becoming the political nickelodeon.

Media talking heads and lawmakers have made some weak indications as to their positions on the Fairness Doctrine, a matter that should be taken up by the next Congress. It's time for we ordinary citizens to say what we think.

Restore some Fairness to the spectrum so that the one-way din of disinformation that's been bullhorned to us for twenty years by corporations with no public interest requirement can be answered by quieter informed voices. Fairness does not stop the right wing from speaking, it takes their greedy hands off of the dump button. Know that it is NOT ELITIST to have or want a larger world-view than the tiny one sold to us by the current crop of talkers.

Stations such as WFLA-AM in the Tampa Bay market should be picketed for their one-sided daily programming, which is basically 58-59 minutes of right wing propaganda for every 1-2 minutes of Fox news and local weather. They could better balance if they wanted to, but they don't. There is no other AM choice for news and information in the Tampa market, and don't tell us to purchase satellite radio.

The reason news radio is dominated by conservative talk (not right-wing propoganda) is twofold.

First, it (news radio) sells advertising time and marketing research has shown the most viable market for a certain segment of advertising is the same market that has an interest in conservative talk radio.

Second - like it or not - there is a larger segment of American society that agrees with the majority of the values put forward on conservative shows.

Talk radio is free market capitalism at its finest. The strongest product survives - conservative talk. If there were more interest in liberal talk radio there would be more of it broadcast from your local stations.

Not a larger segment, as evidenced by the results of the last two elections. There are just more intolerant right wingers who like to spend their time listening to the radio. Most other people prefer to spend their time doing other things.

It is a mistake for liberals to try to out-obnoxious "conservatives" a la an Olbermann show or a Maddow show. Sincere people with intelligent points of view should talk TO each other in the SAME VENUE without a shout down, which is the current state of debate in all media. We in the real world are depressed by all of this bullshit, and it is ripping the United States apart.

As for the Hannity show, I'm sorry, I don't see Al Sharpton as an eloquent counter to the 20-year onslaught of narrow cartoon "conservatism". It is cartoon vs. cartoon, with editorial hammer control by the right. We are descending, unless we restore Fairness.

I see the restoration of Fairness to the land as akin to the realization of the Magna Carta, which gave restoration to the rights of common men and women to be free, make decisions, and BE.
