I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Burger King has created an application for Facebook that allows users to delete 10 friends in exchange for a free Whopper.

Taking Klondike's "What would you do for a Klondike Bar?" motif to the next level, Burger King invites Facebook users to sacrifice 10 of their friends on the social networking site for a coupon for a free sandwich:

"What would you do for a free WHOPPPER? Now is the time to put your fair-weather web friendships to the test. Install WHOPPER Sacrifice on your Facebook profile, and we'll reward you with a free flame-broiled WHOPPER when you sacrifice 10 of your friends."

Sacrificed friends show up in a user's news feed.

AdWeek offers more details on the promotion:

The effort crafted by Crispin Porter + Bogusky came about after agency creative staffers confronted the too-many-friends scenario themselves on Facebook.

"We thought there could be some fun there, removing some of these people who are friends [but] not necessarily] best friends," said Jeff Benjamin, executive interactive creative director at Crispin, and friend to 736 on Facebook. "It's asking the question of which love is bigger, your love for your friends or your love for the Whopper," he said.

The app also adds a box to user profile pages charting their progress toward the free burger with the line, "Who will be the next to go?"

Leave it to a major company to show leadership on social and environmental responsibility matters. BK, flame broiling their shareholder's wealth. BK, is that real flame broiled flavor in those burgers or some bizarro synthetic organic flame broil tasting facsimile flavored molecular 'stew' developed at IFF which hasn't been adequately tested by the FDA for harmful side effects which may include shortness of breath, diabetes, obesity, suicidal tendencies, erections lasting more than 4 hours, depression, nausea, dry mouth, spurious and erudite vaginal comments, increased social anxiety, hair growth, hair loss, an endless thirst for Coke and/or Pepsi products, addiction to high fructose corn syrup, allergies to non-processed foods including whole wheat, fruits, vegetables and hard cheeses, coma and death? I didn't think so.

A whopper costs $240. So each friend would be sacrificed for 24 cents plus tax. But in this economy, who knows.

I'd rather keep the people that I hardly know ,,,,and didn't really like in high school, than eat that disgusting dog-food-meat-sponge they refer to as a 'hamburger'

Hey, at least they didn't get all ghetto like McDonalds did a few years back trying to catch the supposed "urban market".

That nugget commercial especially gets on my nerves! The first time I saw it, I immediately said to my friend "they're really trying to get us in there". The sad thing is, it worked on her lol.

Got ta love it. As much as I try to hate Burger-Ding (for Jimmy's sake, trying to denny migrant workers a PENNY a pound on Tomatoes to bring their lives not into the 21st century, but back into the 20th century!) I have to laugh at their latest ad campaigns, from the plastic-faced (and creepy) "King" to Burger Bucks, to betraying your friends, to 4-patty monstrosities guaranteed to give anyone over 48 a heart-attack in one sitting!

Beer commericials have gotten away with "DUMB IS COOL" for way too long (remember the bikini-clad girls hugging the _female_ dog, "Spuds McKenzie"?)

The Burger-Ding adds are beyond dumb, they are downright insulting, which makes them hilarious!

I too have only two friends. Can I get a slice of tomato?

Slow news day. Still.

Really. Fast Food? Virtual friends? Who cares?

Some of these comments are ridiculous. We eat healthily enough - I'm not going to get looney-tunes about a cheap burger. The food police are more irritating than Burger King.

I don't do Facebook so no free Whopper for me. I'd be willing to bet that my nephew's going for it.

this page is always so full of self-rightous people. so many complaining about how they wouldn't want to eat at BK anyway because the food is supposedly unhealthy and everything else. It's meant to be funny people get over yourselves.

I don't imagine BK is advertising to the pompous ones on here who spout on about how great they are for being vegan or that we should only eat organic.

umm...your choice if you want to die a couple decades before your time. no one is stopping you bud, especially not this "self-righteous" vegan. :)

sacrifice 10 friends for a over cooked hockey puck made from questionable meat?

more evidence that society is only as good as the food it thinks it eats.

I knew BK was at least partially responsible for the downfall of Western society when I saw the TRIPLE WHOPPER on their menu. Who the hell needs a triple whopper? I'm old enough to remember the introduction of the "takes 2 hands to hold a " whopper, and it was essentially billed as more food than you could ever need. Now we're not happy until we have 3X the food you could ever need?

And they want you to tick off a bunch of friends in order to get one?

It's creepy to be the king.

As long as I can get a 5x5 at In N Out, BK can have their triple whopper.
