No, this is the wrong choice. Ross has demonstrated he is not an even handed broker, no peace will be achieved with old baggage. This is very disappointing.
Obama reveals that his agenda is to continue to support the oppression of the Muslim world. Dennis Ross is clearly a belligerent partisan for Israel. Obama's comments regarding Israel's actions in Gaza show he places Israel as the superior power with its own rules in the Middle East.
To the Muslim world, its clear that Obama is no different from Bush, except his style will be more cunning.
The Quran addresses these types of leaders such as Obama and Ross. In translation:
2:11 And when they are told, "Do not spread corruption on earth," they answer, "We are but improving things!"
2:12 Oh, verily, it is they, they who are spreading corruption but they perceive it not?
2:13 And when they are told, "Believe as other people believe," they answer, "Shall we believe as the weak-minded believe?" Oh, verily, it is they, they who are weak-minded -but they know it not!
Do the people of the world know better how to resolve the conflict in the Holyland? Or do the politicans who serve partisan and worldly interests know better?
What an awful choice. Does Obama want to have any credibility, he already chose Clinton as SOS and he has Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff. Dennis Ross is viewed as a racist in the Middle East, its like choosing David Duke as an envoy between whites and blacks in America.
So Dennis will do his job of making the Palestinians offers he know they will refuse and serve his masters from the right-wing of Likud.
When will the United States return to principles and support a fair broker for this post?
Why does Obama think that someone who has failed, failed and failed again can suddenly work out a deal that both sides can live with here>?
And the farce goes on and Israeli and Palestinians suffer alike.
I find it very interesting that there have been ONLY 7 comments on this appointment and all of them are negative. NOT ONLY no comments in support of Ross' appointment but SIlence of those who are always ready to jump in and support Israel and their agenda in U.S. Silence is deafening.
I think appointing Netanyahu would have been a more honest appointment. At least the public would know where his loyalties lay.
As I've said in numerous posts - we have been had! It is true what my father used to tell me - democrats and republicans are the opposite sides of the same coin! The true face of Obama is slowly being revealed.........and it isn't pretty.......change you can fool the people with.
This is a terrible choice. Ross is more of a hawk than Netanyahu. He was not known as "Israel's Lawyer" for nothing. If Obama expects to achieve anything in terms of a peace agreement he needs to be a lot more even-handed than the previous administrations.
Dennis Ross is a terrible choice for dealing with the Middle East. He did not accomplish anything in eight years of shuttle diplomacy between Israel and the Palestinians during the Clinton presidency. His solution for the problems with Iran is more sanctions. I am really disappointed with Obama's lack of understanding of the real issues in the Middle East. More sanctions lead to paralysis and increased tension. It is time to treat other countries with respect instead of trying to push them around.
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG PERSON FOR THE POST. The Washington Institute for Near East Policy is a Zionist organization, dedicated to lobby for Israel. How in the world does Obama think Ross can deal with Iran. Iranians are not stupid and know every one of these Israeli lobbyists well.
What a tragedy for American foreign policy in the Middle East with Hilary and Ross.
Third time lucky?
