I Like ItI Don’t Like It

In April, reports revealed that former attorney general Alberto Gonzales was "unable to interest law firms in adding his name to their roster." Gonzales has previously said that law firms were hesitant to hire him because of "all the investigations and the possibility that I might be indicted." But in an interview with the Austin-American Statesman this week, Gonzales blamed the "rough economy" for his lack of work:

It's got to be the economy. Who wouldn't want to hire the guy who nearly destroyed the justice dept. single handedly.

Probably he can get a temporary job moving Bush's stuff out of the White House.

Yes, being a lying sycophant and tainted Bush appointee has absolutely nothing to do with it! LOL

Gonzales can thank his former boss for the "rough economy." Beyond that, he can consider his lack of prospects as consequences of his performance.

No fan of this guy or any of the Bushies, but no one thinks it strange that the little brown guy is the only one out in the cold. If this guy's name was Albert Gordon instead of Alberto Gonzales he would be at any white shoe firm in the country.

Thank you sir, exactly correct. It's averse racism at it's best.

Baseball Commissioner? *snort* His mindset's still somewhere back around 2003-2004 when qualifications were overlooked to be handed a sweet appointment.

Nah, Alberto - I think it's because you're an incompetent, lying tool for the Bush Administration.

(copy of rejection letter to Mr Gonzalez)

Unfortunately we cannot offer you a position at this time due to our concerns about your memory issues. Your record as a public servant shows that your recall of events was spotty and imprecise. The sensitive issues that our firm deals with every day require that our lawyers have a good grasp of current affairs and the ability to recall details about their work with precision.
Sincerely.......

Another important reason for rejecting former Attorney Generalissimo Alzheimer Gonzales is that he apparently has no knowledge of or experience with the requirements for ethical behavior. Or if he ever did, he can't recall and there is no evidence of it in the public record.

Mr. Gonzales is facing a crisis brought on by his slavish devotion to George Bush throughout his professional life. He is the classic example of a lawyer who placed loyalty to a client above loyalty to the oath he took upon admission to the bar. As a consequence he was willing to politicize the DOJ by imposing ideological litmus tests on applicants for employment. He was willing to force the resignation of U.S. attorneys who sought to perform their duties independently and who resisted interference by Bush political operatives, such as Karl Rove. And he was willing to endorse, if not personally draft, opinions to provide legal cover for whatever unlawful policies his patron determined to pursue.

The cumulative effect of Mr. Gonzales' actions was to render him toxic. Large national and international law firms will not touch him because of his reputation in the legal community. Law firms with fewer ethical scruples do not regard Mr. Gonzales' rainmaking ability sufficiently profitable to warrant the risk. And members of the bar who recognize the primacy of the rule of law in this country regard the damage done by Mr. Gonzales as more than sufficent to warrant his disbarment.

Under the circumstances, Mr. Gonzales' contention that his lack of employment reflects current economic woes is transparently specious. He occupies the same fantasy universe inhabited by Dick Cheney and the neocon revisionists who are desperately attempting to erase the memories of the past eight years from the minds of the public.
