I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Barack Obama is not the only one being inaugurated on January 20th. We all are. This moment in history demands that we stop waiting on others -- especially others living in Washington D.C. -- to solve the problems and right the wrongs of our times. It's your inauguration, too!

To illustrate this we are putting together a video featuring people from across America taking the presidential oath of office:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

All you have to do is video yourself taking that simple oath. You can do it anywhere you want - even sitting in front of your computer, talking into your webcam.

Post the video of you taking the oath on YouTube or Vimeo, then put the link to the video in the comments section of this post (please tag these videos "HuffPost Oath").

In 1964 when I volunteered for enlistment into the USMC I took an oath
to protect and defend. I took it seriously and to heart.

This oath had no expiration date. I have been bound to it my entire life.

It makes me happy that others are taking this oath.
I hope they read and understood the meaning before the fact
If they did; we will have a better and stronger country because of it.

"I always thought Bush was a good guy" I'm really not surprised you say that, Mr. P-E. Anyone that has ears to hear has heard.

A new AlPAC administration is coming with a different name. They are pausing the US-IsraeI massacre against the PaIestinians for a couple of days for inauguration partying, only to resume the US-IsraeI massacre thereafter.

Peace Corps volunteers - after completing their in-country training - are sworn in by taking the same oath of office as the pres. Kinda neat.

Damn. This is messed up. I am surprised these two Nazi parents didn't name one child Josef Mengele.

The oath of office has become little more than a photo op.
This last president and vice president spent every day they were in office violating that oath. You can count the members of congress on one hand that lived up to their oath of office.
I say we start again and make certain that those that violate that oath are removed from office immediately.

As I'm Irish, living in Dublin I can't take the Oath of office so here is a poem I wrote with the historic nature and meaning of the inauguration of Barack Obama at its heart.

A Hope Is Born
By

Erik Eblana

As memories lap upon the fervent Rock Creek shore;
Its watery soul with heady flow pours nobly out.
In its endless tribute to our brothers gone before,
Dissolving bonds that dawning fathers spoke about.

Dipped in simmering sounds of Duke Ellington tones
From Main Street to Black Broadway and beyond;
Unleashed, a boundless heart with every note and chord,
So listen well, the beat of history is abound.

Though shadows of intolerance still reach out to speak
And whisper; ‘Wheel about, turn about, jump Jim Crow!’
Even now, as Martin Luther King, dreams richly deep,
Let the virgin vessel at last take mighty float.

Of the people by the brave, a nation stands for all;
As Lincoln gently conceived with Liberty
‘Justice!’ the bells of the shining city keenly call.
At last a hope is born where all can strive for peace.

All the best wishes to Mr. Obama, his family and the United States!

I think a more valuable tool, would be for all elected officials to be polygraphed and given truth serum before taking the oath of office and every 6 months while in office.

I have always said that an elected official should automatically be under oath under the threat of perjury when speaking before an audience pursuant his or her duties as that official. No more "I was taken out of context" or "that's simply not true".

Or the proverbial; "I don't recall", "I just don't recall", or "I just can't remember".

If they are this mentally deficient, they are unfit to serve and should be removed from office.

The swearing upon a bible to uphold the constitution, is a non enforceable charade. This is a pompous ceremony that means little, as we all witness daily the corruption of our elected officials who have also sworn to uphold the constitution and enforce the laws of the land.

It's all Hollywood. Just smoke and mirrors

I am fearing the same. I believe the President has to empower whoever to investigate and prosecute those who have authorized torture, lies to go to war, illegal monitoring of US citizens, rendition, war profiteering, and obstructing justice. I have had my belly full of low level people punished for torture, but who were authorized to do that by high level people.

If we are to look forward we have to resolve the past. How can we go progress foward without understanding the past. If no one really is above the law, then we have to prosecute the highest level criminals first to prove that. If we neglect to prosecute under some desire to only look ahead, we will repeat the past. The sins of the past must be punished if there is accountability and a desire to proceed.

I want to be one of those who take the "oath" with president elect Barack Obama on January 20; see my link to video posted on Youtube. Following up on the request from Huffingtonpost.com to take our oath of office with the president

This whole thing is a *cute* idea, but let's get real: none of us are about to become the President of the United States. It seems to make much much more sense to follow the noble sentiment here but in a reasonable way: on January 20th let's stand with President Obama and take the **Citizen's Oath** DavidNCoC shared!

I'm with jeniferdaniels: let's go rogue!
