Lindsay Lohan: I Work As Hard As Scarlett Johansson

Lindsay Lohan gave an interview to Lauren Hutton in the February issue of Interview, and bemoaned the state of her career and the poor film educations of youth today.

On not getting the same opportunities as other actresses: "But it's so impossible for me to actually [go someplace where no one knows me]. When I was in Dubai, there was still press lined up around the hotel. So I find it close to impossible to actually do that. I mean, it is what it is. This is what I asked for, and in this day and age that's what actually goes on. But what hurts me the most is that I work just as hard as any other actress around my age, like Scarlett Johansson, but I just don't get the opportunities that they get because people are so distracted by the mess that I created in my life. But that doesn't mean it's going to last forever.

On being in Hollywood to act, not to become a celebrity: "I just feel as though it's become a situation where people have manifested this caricature of who I am, and they act as if there's no real person inside of it. I mean, people really have come to believe-directors, producers, agents, whoever it may be-that I started in this because I wanted to be a celebrity. But that was never my intention."

On the public misconception of her and the lack of knowledge about film: "I wanted to be a movie star [growing up]. But movie stars are not what they used to be. When I was a kid, I thought movie stars were women and men who were in these great films that we still look at now. But I don't think there are too many films coming out these days that we're going to look at in the future and say, 'This is one of the great ones.' Like, what is the great film that I will tell my children about? I'm still going to tell them about the old films, the Hitchcock films. And people my age don't even know who those people are. I can't even have a conversation with most people of my generation about that, because they'd be like, 'Okay, she's a freak. Something's wrong with her.'

Speaking of Scarlett Johansson, it was reported last year that Lohan once scrawled "Scarlett is a cunt" on a bathroom wall.

I would have a great deal more sympathy for the issue of her problems drawing more attention than her talents if only A) She had not created a situation wherein her problems caused real and costly trouble in her job and B) She had not chosen to try to create some false comparison between herself and Miss Johansson, who is said to be a reliable, rock steady joy to work (never met her, so of course, for that I'm relying on the interviews I've read with those who have worked with her) with and is a stunningly versatile actress as opposed to the fairly narrow range Miss Lohan is able to span.

Miss Lohan is adorable, and I certainly feel for anyone trying to overcome an addiction, but part of overcoming it has to be accepting responsibility for herself.

I feel badly for this young woman. She clearly didn't get something (nurturing? support? supervision? morals? dignity? sense of right/wrong?) while being raised. Sort of like Britney.

i feel very, very sorry for this young woman.

Anyone who feels glee at her misfortunes and bad choices is a ghoul.

Her parents should be tortured for what theyve done to her.

She should round up whats left of money and sanity and move to a nice small town and become a community theater actress. Then maybe she may have a happy life and still be creative.

If she stays in the City of Vipers - shes doomed.

Obsessions of celebrity and fame are the most damaging things to our culture and our nation.

She's had the same unfortunate jealousy of Scarlett Johanssen for years.

It's too bad, I actually think Lohan had more potential as an actress. Scarlett's not very good. But now Lohan's just another tabloid sideshow and I doubt there's going to be any road back from that.

Look at the hornets nest she started here just metioning Scarlett. It's just not clean, in manners of being professional
The secret, dear Lindsey, is to talk good about other people. To mention them in a way where you actually honor them.
Then if you don't have something good to say about someone, say nothing at all. This only makes you look better, which surt doesn't hurt your appeal.

As an adult, Lohan remains beautiful, but hasn't had the right films to develop her talent. She needs more experience with serious roles, drama or theater. I believe she can become a strong talent if she concentrates on acting and stops stealing others clothing from restaurants.
