I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Transportation plays a major role in our lives. We would all like to keep the benefits that it brings us while getting rid of the negative side effects (global warming, air pollution, etc). Walkable cities, public transit, and cycling are all part of the solution, but automobiles will be with us for the foreseeable future, so we need a car revolution. Here are some electric cars (some more successful than others) that are showing us what tomorrow might be like.

Personally I liked the silver GM Volt. I do not know how electric cars can really be greener until electric is greener. We are now witnessing just one of the unknown downsides of coal. I'm not sure how or the best way to alter the percentages as many families depend on coal. Using oil is also proving very problematic for us. Green sources still seem dubious, to me at least, not the sources rather the general design and delivery methods. I'm sure these things are being tackled. Perhaps it is now time for a mental shift, to try to think smaller to think bigger. Although, I'm not sure if the smaller cars would be very safe, that would be a problem for many people, especially for new drivers or for people with children.

off topic but.....
Most countries have a very efficient, comfortable and convenient private sector transport system to and from public living centers to public shopping/entertainment/central areas. Usually reffited minivans. They are usually extremely convenient (waits are usually no more than a few minutes) and can link people to other forms of transport like trains. Almost like an airport shuttle, but cheaper ( a buck or two), and one that keeps moving on a specific route that picks and drops people off as it goes( like a cab would). It is a job (I think often self-employed) and provides a needed service. They are usually extremely popular and many people use and depend on them.

The Volt is little more than a sick joke being played by GM. They had a revolutionary design in the EV1 yet decided for "unknown" reasons to kill the project then attempt to destroy every one of them ever built. IMHO had they kept the EV1 and developed it further maybe they could have been a serious competitor to Toyota and Honda rather than becoming pathetic beggars at the foot of Congress, holding out their hats for billions. For this reason I give GM and it's yet to be produced Volt the biggest middle finger possible!

They left out the best one: the homemade conversion that your local backyard mechanic does to an old dino breather that blew its engine. http://www.evadc.org/links.html

I talked to someone who told me that during and shortly after World War II, there were thousands of all-electric delivery vehicles in Manhattan. They just put a bunch of lead-acid batteries in the delivery vans, and off they went. I guess that in Manhattan, they did not have to drive very far, nor very fast, there are no hills, and they were never very far from their garage.

So far electric cars are only driving slow news days and some old people who hang around the golf course all day long.

120 Teslas out of 150 million cars (or so) makes a difference of how much? Like your namesake you are not very good with numbers.
