I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Roland Burris is paying the price for an appointment that is tarnished and tainted by the cloud of corruption and scandal that hovers menacingly over the head of Gov. Rod Blagojevich, according to a new poll by the Glengariff Group. The poll indicates that 52 percent of Illinois voters oppose the appointment. Only 32 percent support it and only 21 percent approve of the governor's decision to exercise his appointment power, while 72 per cent want a special election or an appointment by Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn to fill the Senate seat.

Only 52% don't want him? That's very close to half and easily within a margin of error. The other half do want him. But that isn't the issue. The issue is whether the governor should be allowed to appoint him. As much as I might disapprove of the governor's behaviour, he is entitled to due process. As long as he has not been impeached, he is innocent until proven guilty. He is still the governor and has all the powers he was given when elected to that position. If they don't want him to exercise his powers, they need to get off their collective behinds and impeach him.

Huh? Report says 32% agree he should be seated... how does that constitute "the other half do want him"

Um, they don't call EVERYone in polling. I see your point though. If they had called you, the results could have been drasticallly the same.

I'm sure somewhere on fivethirtyeight.com you'll find a simple, easily comprehensible guide as to how polls are done... and why "everyone" isn't called.

It's easy for them to say who they are against, but who are they FOR?

That answer is simple... they will be FOR someone not appointed by our sham of a governor!
