I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Rachel Maddow appeared on "The Daily Show" Wednesday night, where she and Jon Stewart discussed the MSNBC family, President-Elect Obama's policy knowledge, and George Bush's Blair House snub of the incoming First Family.

Stewart opened the interview by telling Maddow hers is "a lovely voice to have out there on the air," and then he compared MSNBC anchors to the Munster family.

"Ever see The Munsters?" he asked. "Here's what I think when I watch MSNBC: you're Marilyn," referring to the only normal member of a family of monsters. "But everyone else over there is **** nuts. I'm not gonna tell you who Herman Munster is, but I will tell you I believe Chris Matthews is the dragon who lives under the stairs."

"You know, I'm new there!" Maddow shot back.

Watch:

Maddow explained that she doesn't watch cable news because she doesn't have a TV — "I watch you on the online machine," she said to Stewart — but that she tries to stand out as a different voice from the "homogenized" landscape of cable news.

The two then discussed Maddow's debates with Pat Buchanan (Grandpa Munster in Stewart's analogy) and her interviews with Barack Obama, who she described as "a policy dork."

"I don't necessarily agree with him on everything on policy, but I want him to care," she said of the President-Elect, adding that Bill Clinton's policy-obsession was one of his most endearing traits as President.

"I know this is a small thing," Maddow then said, "but I'm insulted as an American, and a little bit embarrassed as an American, that a guy whose salary I pay, President Bush, has decided that the First Family can't stay in the Presidential guest house."

I'm afraid I am not going to be one of those mindless intellectually deprived liberals jumping on the Rachel Maddow band wagon! First, she is a woman not a man like so many of these commentaries seem to imply! I actually watched her entire show last night and am still shaking my head a day later. There isn't even a pretense at journalism. It's all condescending and spiteful comments directed at anyone who disagrees with the liberal agenda. I occasionally get tired of Hannity's predictable views but at least there is an attempt at objectivity on his part by bringing people with different opinions! There is an actual discussion of the topic at hand versus the Maddow and Oberman republican bashing happy hour!

I was floored by her opening tirade against McCain because as a senator he had the audacity to object to certain aspect of the pork filled (e.g. $300 millions for abortion) stimulus package that Messiah Obama is eagerly trying to ram down our throat post haste. Her big smug point: "He won". Yes, he did. But this is America, not Venezuela or Cuba and some other dictatorship. The President does not unilaterally make the laws. He has to get the approval of Congress. And members of Congress, for Ms Maddow edification are allowed to disagree with the president and express it otherwise it's CHANGE we C'ANT leave with!

Wow ok so my post doesn't get approved because I was Olbermann and Maddow bashing? I bet whoever moderates this is a democrat

Rachel Maddow is the man. For Bush to take cheap shots at him like that is low. Just think about how well respected this guy is among the media community. His show on MSNBC is awesome. Mr. Maddow doesn't deserve that type of low-brow insult. And you have to love his haircut. No matter what people say about Maddow, I'm going to stand behind the man.

Rachel is special, in the way that she respects and listens to other people's opinions. And yes, she does give her own views, which I agree with much of the time. She is cute, (but I like only guys, oh well), but dang she really is gorgeous!

"I don't necessarily agree with him on everything on policy, but I want him to care"
Yeah Rachel, THAT's what's important! Not the actual policy or if Obama even understands the policy, but if he cares about it. Welcome to liberal feel good politics!

Rachel Maddow is absolutely awesome in every way. To compare her to anybody in the Munsters gang is a weak attempt at humor. Jon, you owe this sister a little more respect. She is a bright star. I like KO too and appreciate what he has done to promote Rachel's show. Maybe Jon is jealous.

I love Rachel but I get upset when I see her in those eyeglasses she is really a beautiful woman
and I think she is like me I wear my contacts to work and my glasses when I am off work but
Rachel just for your fans those glasses have got to go they are god awful. Now on to the next
subject I think the Obamas know the real deal with the Blair House and I think for them its OK
because on January 20, 2009 they will be moving into the best house possible.

Dude. As a glasses-wearer, I can't believe you're saying this.
The woman's brain practically jumps off the screen and you're focusing on her eyewear?

As DMC used to say, she wears those glasses so she can SEE.
Also, maybe she LIKES her glasses.

Okay, the glasses make her. I'm kinda disappointed she can't wear them on air but I understand it from a TV perspective.

Though they could designate a special day for it somewhere down the line though, I really like her in glasses.

MSNBC is refreshing to me . I am sick of OReilly ,Limbaugh ,Hannity and Fix News and the BS they spew. Olbermann and Maddow are giving it back to the Right Wing in the fashion they deserve. I find that it is different who is slinging crap . I have found that the pendulum swings both ways and the bigger crybabies the louder they cry. Right winger make me ill . I will feel a whole lot better in 9 days after the Republican War Criminal and his gang of thugs are no longer in power. Stewert its time to find a real job.

Maddow completes the quadra-headed propaganda noise of Matthews, Olbermann, Schuster (and now Rachael) at MSNBC. She is the least obnoxious of the four but MSNBC is what it is. It would have been very entertaining to see what Munster characters Jon Stewart would have assigned the others.

Another non-story.

Obama wasn't put out in the cold. The Blair House had been booked for a long time before. He gets it on Jan. 15.

Moral: Book early.

I just hope the Bush rednecks don't leave the White House all trashed out for the Obama family. You know, renters do that a lot.

Bush knew a new president was coming in - would he had done the same to McCain? Granted McCain probably had one of his ten houses in the DC area and no kids so it wasn't an issue. But isn't it interesting that the ex Australian PM has priority, and further interesting that he and Bushie have similar ideologies? Looks like Bush surrounds himself with like individuals right up to the bitter end.

You mean Bush didn't know there was going to be an election in 2008 and that there would be a new president moving in?

There must be a nearby, less than 100 miles, Motel 6 for Neocon Nutcase ex-Aussie Prime Minister AND ex-member of parliament John Howard. Yes, the Aussies here on HP have said they liked him so little they booted him from BOTH jobs at the same time.

Rachel, I too am embarrassed by this White House snub. Removing the "W" key was a childish prank for George coming into office all those years ago. This is a clear slap in the face to all Obama voters by the Republican party. This proves that all McCain/Palin supporters were all cold at heart.. Let the ambassador stay at the Red Roof Inn.

I disagree. The slap in the face is to Bush and his assistants. Don't forget the Chief of Protocol.
