Governor Rod Blagojevich may have another appointment to make in the near future.

Patricia Young resigned her seat on the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District's Board of Commissioners to return to her former position in the public affairs division of the district.

Under Illinois law, the governor appoints a replacement.

Blagojevich's corruption looks to go far beyond the ordinary way of things. I don't like Harry Reid all that much either, but for the people of IL ( including me) any Blago appointment to any position is tainted by his corruption. All of the foot-dragging about why we should NOT have a special election for the Senate seat is ridiculous. Sure, it will cost some money, but frankly, we are so far in the hole, we ought to just get on with it. It can be piggy-backed onto the special election for Rahm Emmanuel's state seat and the sooner they announce it, the sooner people can start campaigning and we can actually ELECT someone. I know the senate Dems want their majority and I want them to have it too- but not at the expense of IL citizens. Burris has shown what a low-grade pol he is and just the fact that he accepted an appointment from Blago shows me that he is not someone I want representing me, no matter what color, party or affiliation. Dick Durbin is a very capable Senator and can hold the fort for a couple of months if needed- LET THE PEOPLE VOTE FOR A NEW SENATOR!

I wonder if Fitzgerald will even really try to get an indictment against Blagojevich. Right now he has asked for a delay in seeking an indictment so he can put together his case. But shouldn't he have already had that when he arrested him. Spitzer from New York was "accused" of a crime but the charges were never brought before a court once he resigned. Is that the Bush Administration US Attorney's way of taking out sitting Governors? They did it with Speilman too but that conviction was overturned...

Once Blagojevich is Impeached and removed, a forgone conclusion at this point, they will have done what they intended.

We also have the possiblity that Fitzgerald wants to keep his job as US Attorney under Obama and thought that putting together a case against the Illinois Gov would keep him employed for a while.

There is so much of this 'crooked corrupt politics' that more time is spent on it than actual governance. No wonder we're in such a mess. Between Blago and Palin getting so much attenrion (neither one of them has any class at all) are we leaving it up to lame duck Bush to solve issues. Well we all know how that will turn out.

Come on America - get REAL!

I was hoping the only appointments he would be making were at his barber.

This is democracy in action; and it's a beautiful thing to behold. To me the most interesting part of the story is the soft corruption of Harry Reid.

Reid is a representative from Nevada who holds a Position of Power in the Senate and has argued that it is "part of his job" to call governors and persuade them toward selecting his own preferred candidates for public office. It is a fact that Reid made an unsolicited phone call to Gov Blago for the purpose of "sharing his thoughts" about who would make a "successful" senator from Illinois. The conflict of interest here is obvious.

The story gets better though. Reid publicly states that he and the Senate can do "whatever they want" with regard to seating the representative from Illinois. He actually said that! SO the Senate rejects Blago's appointment only to have the High Court in Illinois underscore that US Senate cannot dictate the terms of how a state appoints its representatives beyond the qualifications provided in the US Constitution.

Personally, I believe this series of events have shown Reid to be more interested in his own political power and interests than the interests of the people and the laws of the land. For all his Disgrace and alledged corruption, Blago was right to make the Appointment. Illinois deserves to be fully represented in the Senate. Now, Reid is going to have to face that fact.

In order for him to successfully appoint someone - the appointee has to say YES - I hope the Burris issue has quelled those tainted designs. By now, unless one is REALLY screwy -- they should just cool their heels and wait for the Lt. Governor to move in.

You think there aren't any more screwy people in Chicago? I'll bet they're lined up to participate in the kind of circus King Burris is enjoying.

As I've said before, (to paraphrase the late Johnny Cochran) "If it's all schtick, you must equit". Blago did nothing more obscene than I would presume goes on everyday in Congress, pay for play, or another word for lobbyists. Blago knows this and why he is holding tight. And, I do believe by now, Fitz, knows it too and WHY he has scheduled the trial for sometime in March. He really doesn't have anything to hang on him, criminally, and he is hoping he will be removed from office instead because that was the real objective in all this.

This guy has absolutely NO RESPECT for his position or the value of a democracy. He is nothing more than a pirate who is forcing the people of Illinois to eat his filth until someone knocks him down. This is ludicrous, surely there is a power in Illinois to protect the people from this lunatic while they finish him off in his trial. He must be put aside in the interim.

He resigned his congressional seat effective Jan. 2, 2009. The special primary will be held on Mar. 3, 2009, and the special general election will be held on April 7. (Wikipedia)
