I Like ItI Don’t Like It

It's only January and already we have the first Democratic caucus blood feud.

Alaska Democratic freshman Mark Begich is slamming Joe Lieberman on the one issue that has made the renegade Connecticut Independent a darling of the left -- the environment.

From Wikipdia:

The DOE reported that annual United States consumption of crude oil and petroleum products was 7.55 billion barrels in 2006 and again in 2007, totaling 15.1 billion barrels. In comparison, the USGS estimated that the ANWR reserve contains 10.4 billion barrels. Although, only 7.7 billion barrels are within the proposed drilling region.

In other words, Begich wants to r a p e the last bit of pristine wilderness for a one year (or less) supply of oil. I know desperate times call for deperate measures but this is ludicrous.

When exactly are we going to get serious about climate change?

We don't need to get off foreign oil. We need to get off of oil, period. And coal.

There are 600,000,000 automobiles in the world. Each one puts 4000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. They do this regardless of whether the oil is foreign or domestic.

The polar ice caps are melting before our eyes. Not over a thousand years or few centuries. It is only taking a decade or two. That is not a natural climate swing.

I suppose we'll get around to saving the planet when all the wars are over and the economy is tip-top and stable. Hopefully it won't be too late.

Yes, we need to get off oil and coal. It won't happen overnight though. Meanwhile we are waging war for ME oil/empire.

Seems like if your an Alaskan political parties think alike when it comes to the oil/gas money.
It's a shame that the Alaskan people believe ANWR is entirely their property to do as they desire. They do enjoy their share of the oil money and that can be respected but allowing foreign companies to profit while they receive minimal is wrong. I also believe they should not be selling off the gas to Asia as they do when this country needs it and reserves are getting low. Country first really means Alaska only! Exon left quite a mess with the spills tand BP does not have any enforcements to keep the pipeline secure from corrosions. Little pay offs, years later are not sufficient so envirolmentals have every reason to protect ANWR.

Maybe part of this whole energy independence things needs to include our own oil vs OPEC's . . . just a thought though.

He also knows that the pipline is already there and if it isn't used, it will fall apart and be a total waste.

Why does every politician from Alaska believe that they are an energy expert. I'm from Georgia so I guess I'm and expert on peaches or something. Begich needs to shut up and fall in line and stop this lets develop our resources crap. If he is so interested in raping the environment then he should have ran as a Republican.

Don't get too overwrought. Begich has to do that to save face with the whackos in Alaska. It's called "grandstanding." On the entirfe panoply of issues, he'll be 1000% better than that cranky old Stevens.

To Mark Begish, I do not want any more of our natural pristine wildernesses being ruined for the sake of oil and developers. Be creative and go to the areas outside of Anwr and to the thousands of leases that are not being used! These precious protected areas are a National Treasure and belong to all Americans and their children and future generations. We need to preserve what little is remaining in this world and especially our country!!!!!!!!!! The Future is not in OIL!!!!!

As a former Alaskan, I have to agree with you. Alaskans SAY they want to get us off foreign oil, but they really just want to continue the tax-free ride that "drill baby drill" gives them, and all politicians up there, even democrats turn into oil 'hoes' just to get votes. Just once, I'd like to see somebody up there care more for the land than they do for themselves. I lived there for 35 years and as a field biologist, I never saw so few people mess up such a large place so fast. It's disgusting the abuse the oil industry (and the Texans they brought with them) have done to Alaska. It is the same 'rape and plunder' mentality that they have shown in third world countries.

The SCIENTIFIC evidence is that there is no man-made global warming. The SCIENTIFIC evidence is that the natural warming cycle of the sun ended around 1998 and that the past six years have shown consistent COOLING. The SCIENTIFIC evidence apparently doesn't count for much among left-winger folks. Having decided to abandon traditional religion, they have fabricated their secular religion of global warming and adopted the dogma and attack any heretic.

Repub talking points.......the scientific community is in almost total agreement that global climate change is man-made. One or two lunatic fringe "scientists" who get their funding by Exxon don't exactly count. Learn the facts.
