I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Bob Poe, an erstwhile state commissioner and former president of the Anchorage Economic Development Corp., has announced his run for the Alaska Democratic gubernatorial ticket in 2010. Whether Sarah Palin will seek re-election is yet to be determined. But if she does, The Hill says that Poe could prove to be a formidable challenger:

Poe is viewed as a serious, viable candidate by state Democrats, though there are some other candidates that could derail Poe's bid to unseat Palin. Poe lacks statewide name recognition unlike a candidate such as Ethan Berkowitz, the Democrat who came close to defeating Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) this past November.

However, it is precisely this lack of name recognition that prompted Poe to announce his gubernatorial candidacy "Obama-style" -- two years prior to the election. The Anchorage Daily News notes here that, in addition to his public obscurity, Poe has never run for public office and thus lacks campaign experience. But this is another hurdle he is prepared to clear. According to the Daily News:

Poe, asked why he's announcing this early, said it gives him time to get out and meet voters. He cited a comment in the Alaska Ear, which, reporting on rumors he would run, suggested the first thing that people would ask is "Who's Bob Poe?"

...

But he's been around Alaska government and business for 28 years. He's currently a business consultant in Anchorage and said he worked under four governors - Sheffield, Cowper, Hickel and Knowles.

On the chance that Palin does decide to run for re-election, Poe has already begun to exploit her recent absence while running for Vice President in the midst of the financial meltdown. He told KTUU News that "It's a really big deal to most Alaskans how our economy moves forward and the role state government has in that. I'm concerned that right now there's not much attention to running state government, there's a lot of attention to running for something else."

Daily Kos, exploring Poe's chances for beating Palin, has concluded that it won't be easy:

Palin's favorables are still pretty high, last time we checked -- 60% favorable, 38% unfavorable. So it'll be a tough race for Bob Poe, and as we saw in 2008, even popular Democrats, like Berkowitz and Mark Begich, have trouble in Alaska, even against crooked Republicans like Young and Ted Stevens.

It should be a fun one, though. The chances of beating Palin are very low, but it will be nice to have her in the media spotlight again in 2010. Even a victory for her in 2010 could damage her chances for 2012, if it's not "convincing" enough.

Thus, Poe is not the first Alaska Democrat to enjoy somewhat favorable odds. But with such a head-start, it seems only time will tell whether he can prove himself on the campaign trail, as he reportedly has in his past public service duties. Interestingly, the Anchorage Daily News also notes that Poe's wife Terzah Poe works for Shell Oil. This is an interesting parallel to Todd Palin, who was obliged to take a leave from BP when his wife's administration entered into negotiations with that company for a natural gas pipeline in 2007.

I hope the Huff Post continues to keep Sarah's face and news off their site except for people that will be chalenging her in the upcoming elections. Sarah does not deserve respect or coverage from viable media outlets.

Normally I am not in favor of the oft repeated salutation "God bless America" as I believe in separation of the church and state. But if PALIN seeks the highest office, I am even forced to accept "God bless America" at every occasion and opportunity, as under those circumstances I will accept every little thing that might help our country.
Ann Coulter is right in saying that Palin could be our next "Reagan", but she forgot to specify "Reagan in his later years, after the full blown Alzheimer"s had set in."

I think, it's time for an opera to be composed on the theme of " The Emporor's New Clothes.....
Not only did she lack any and all substance-- and self-awareness, she was told she could be a viable running mate. The pun intended, refers to her "wardrobegate"-- which, when first confronted, she offered to return to the stores ......Excuse me, but isn't that somewhat unethical at the least, and perhaps also downright dishonest to return used clothes?????

The governor's new clothers! I wouldn't mind taking a peak, though Tina Fey is better looking actually!

Good - Alaska truly needs someone who is going to actually "work". Palin's too busy pumping herselft up and making sure she's in the media.

Also, Palin's whining proves a lack of leadership skills. Strong leaders don't whine and blame everyone else for their woes.

Good. I don't know much about Alaska, but I think Alaska deserves better than what it's been getting in the previous and current crop of politicians.

He may announce his campaign "Obama-style," two years early but he'll never get the fawning biased media coverage.

Sounds like we have a hater in our midst. LOL! Media bias?! Is that code for highlighting ignorance and scrutinizing stupidity? If it it, there sure was media bias against Palin. LOL! How could you possibly take her seriously as a candidate. He own camp didn't take her seriously. Wow! Deep down, you don't believe what you feel you have to repeat from your talking points....back away from Rush...back away from Hannity...back away from Faux News. They're doing you no good. Go Poe!

"Media bias? Is that a code for highlighting ignorance and scrutinizing stupidity?"
Nope, it's a term used by those that are sick of the media favoring the Left. There's nothing wrong with the MSM running stories of McCain's or Palin's screwups, gaffes or bad policy but how about running some about Obama? You heard nothing about Obama's mistakes on CNN, ABC,CBS, NBC or MSNBC unless it was on a commentary program. The news shows merely said that it is reported that the McCain camp said ____________. There was no investigation into the allegations. Just the allegations were reported. On the other hand the media had no problem sending plane loads of investigators to Alaska.
If Palin talked of visiting all "57 States" it would air nightly. If she or McCain said that Russia's invasion of Georgia should be handled by the UN Security Council it would be run over and over (Russia has a permanent seat on the council and veto power). If anyone on the Right inflated tornado deaths by 1000% for political purposes it would be all over the news and if a Conservative gave his wives employer a $1 million dollar earmark and she recieved a promotion and160% raise it would be the lead story for months. This list could go on and on.
If you don't think there's a media bias then I've no doubt the bias leans towards your side.

It's going to be tough for Mr. Poe to debate the current issues with Silly Sarah......she'll have to be dragged screaming and crying away from her favorite Retrospective Blame Game.... "The Whining-Poor Loser-Classless-Cry Baby-Sour Grapes-Blame-Everyone-Else" for her miserable performance in the 2008 general election.

Good Luck, Mr. Poe! You have most of the country rooting for your success!
