"Dexter" Brother And Sister Now Husband-Wife

NEW YORK — They play brother and sister on "Dexter." Now in real life, Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter are husband and wife. Hall's spokesman, Craig Bankey, said on Friday that the couple eloped in California on New Year's Eve. They'll walk the red carpet together at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday _ the first time publicly acknowledging their relationship.

Hall, 37, and Carpenter, 29, just finished the third season of "Dexter," the Showtime series in which Hall plays the murderous title character. They've been quietly dating for about a year and a half.

At their wedding, Carpenter's grandfather's wedding band was attached to her bouquet of white roses.

I love Dexter and I love her character on the show too. I knew they were dating but I am shocked they got married. I wish them well.

Will these bloggers who say there are gay-seeming elements to Dexter please explain that to me? He's got a girlfriend/fiance in the show, and had a wild affair with that crazy British chick. So what's gay about this character? David on SFU was gay. It's a real tribute to MCH's acting ability that he can play two so very different characters so convincingly.

I think the "gay" interpretation comes from the scenes where Dexter kills. There is a distinct visceral energy to every needle plunge and a dark B & D/D & S/S & M vibe to every murder on the table.

It's these scenes where Dexter is being who he truly is and Hall definitely plays it with a sexual energy. And since almost all of his victims are men, it's easily mistaken as a gay undercurrent.

But it's not. It's about power.

Have you seen the Showtime promo with him and Mary Louise and other Showtime stars posing for photos? He seems a little effeminate. And both his big characters were so anal-retentive, tidy, well groomed and almost fanatically fit. The ACTIONS of his characters (as written by writers) didn't give me this impression (as I don't think one's actions are affected by sexual orientation -- other than the sex ones, of course), just his interpretation of them. Turns out he is just a brillant actor.

Michael Hall has one amazing track record.

He was grand in Six Feet Under and yet is so different and also amazing in Dexter. A major star in two of the finest shows ever made.

Both those shows are in my all time fav top ten series.

I agree, Michael Hall has proven himself to be a great actor. I was amazed at how well he played David Fisher and then did a 180 with Dexter.

Six Feet Under and Dexter are my two favorite series.... by far.

Gay because he played a gay person at one time? I never watched that show. He totally does not come off gay. But it's wierd that "Dexter is married to his "sister". I know it's just a show but I'm sure the producers has some trepidation about the budding romance. I guess we will just have to get over it after the shock and awe has subsided. Can't wait to see them together at the Golden Globes.

A lot of people can't separate TV land from real life. He did such a good job playing the mulit-dimensional, conflicted gay guy on "six feet" that some especially ignorant members of the public think it was actually who he is.
