Inauguration Parade Tickets: 5,000 Offered To Public

Barack Obama's Presidential Inaugural Committee sold 5,000 tickets for bleacher seats along the inaugural parade route on Friday. The tickets, selling for $25 a piece, were available through Ticketmaster and reportedly sold out immediately. According to CBS News, "PIC is still reeling from the demand of these tickets and trying to figure out exactly how long the sales took."

Some more details on the parade the lucky 5,000 will be watching, from The Hill:

The 14-block parade route, from the Capitol to the White House, will open to the public at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

More than 90 groups, from high school marching bands to a NASA float and the entire student body of the Virginia Military Institute, will participate in the country's 56th Inaugural parade. Bands from both the president-elect's and Michelle Obama's high schools will be included.

About 1,300 groups applied to participate, which organizers said was three times the number of applications for other recent Inaugurations.

The letter that came with the invitation (I received one) explains that it is commemorative and "invites your presence at any of the public events..." That is, it is not mean to be a ticket to any event. It is meant to be a keepsake, no more. The invitation has the look/feel of a traditional engraved invitation. The printing company did a lovely job.

Every one who is upset about receiving the general invitation for Obama's inauguration should destroy them now... NOW! show Obama you mean more than being sent an (commemorative) invitation to attend general inaugural events. Rip them up, throw them into the fireplace, put lighter fluid on them and burn them, just destroy by any means you see fit.

Did you do it? thanks just want to add a little more value my personal invite, the same invite that went out to 1 million other folks. A third was probably trash upon opening. Yes there is marketing going in the invite, but when was the last time you received one and one for the inauguration of the first AA president. I will be holding onto mine and the other limited edition items from the Obama campaign.

BTW, my sister in-law gave me one of those Obama coins being sold by Montel Williams, not being ungrateful, but that is the kind of stuff you don't buy or hold on to.

I got my printed invitation to the inaugural festivities from the Presidential Inaugural Committee this week. I was so happy I scanned it in, just to make sure I always have a version of it.

I blew it!!! I received the e-mail about the tickets but thought that it was spam and actually reported it to my internet provider!! URGH!!! I thought that there was no charge to be on the mall or parade route. Oh well...thank goodness I didn't rip up the invite I received yesterday...anyone know if that invite is anything more than a souvenir?

Why do you have to be rich? These are just the bleacher seats at the end of the parade route & were only $25. The whole rest of the parade route is free. I did get 4 of these. No i am not scalping them. I will be attending. Yes I am white. So sue me that I want to attend this HISTORIC event.

There is plenty of standing room on the inaugural route, Pennsylvania Avenue. Don't let the "chaos " theory being insinuated by the MSM dissuade you from coming. Where there is a will, there is a way. I plan to take a public transit bus from the D.C. suburb, and walk the rest of the way, and YOU CAN DO THE SAME. I'll bring a cheap umbrella ready to give it up if necessary (it won't). YES WE CAN, especially on Inauguration Day. Please come, by the millions. We're ready to welcome YOU. The security forces will be friendlier than you are led to believe. This is a historic event, and YOU want to be there!
