Nicole Kidman

Daily Mail:

Kidman admits in an astonishing interview with a Sydney radio station that she couldn't bear to watch it when she attended the premiere in the harbour city in November.

Miss Kidman, who plays an English aristocrat who falls for a cowboy played by fellow Australian Hugh Jackman as they drive a herd of cattle across the outback, told radio station 2dayFM that she couldn't look at the movie and be proud of what she had done.

In fact, she revealed, she 'squirmed' in her seat throughout the Sydney premiere.

Miss Kidman, who attended the premiere with country singer husband Keith Urban, said: 'I can't look at this movie and be proud of what I've done.

'I sat there and I looked at Keith and went "Am I any good in this movie?"

I like the movie. I just felt that Kidman and Jackman had NO CHEMISTRY when they were together in scenes. Separately, Jackman was the finer of the two. The film played to his strengths and personality. Can't wait to see this Dude host The Oscars.

The other problem with the film was that I felt Luhrman has a problem juxtaposing sweeping epic with social commentary. Some scenes involving both didn't come off well.

Love the production of "AUSTRALIA" more. I'm a sucker for the "cartoon travel map" effect that was so prevalent in old films.

The only one that escapes unscathed from this film is Brandon Walters. That kid was AMAZING!

And please tell me that The Aboriginal GrandFather wasn't the same guy that Richard Chamberlain faced from Peter Weir's "THE LAST WAVE"? LOL

Eh.
Every actor makes one or two bombs.
I still think she is a decent actress.

If anything, we should be blaming the director.
If her performance wasn't good, then they should have taken another take, or at least given her some direction (that's why it's called a director). Nobody does perfect on the first take every time.

Besides, what is up with all of the Kidman hate?
She's just a person who happens to be an actress.

She's NEVER good in any movie. Who does she have the goods on to keep getting these starring roles?

Sometimes people take themselves and the movies they see a little too seriously. I ate a pot brownie, and enjoyed the hell out of it. It was visually a treat, there was some exciting stuff. Nicole and Hugh were hot. So what if it wasn't "The Hours"? Sometimes you just need a little mindless entertainment.

I thought she was perfect for the role. She was supposed to be cool and restrained in the beginning. This wasn't my favorite Baz film, but I enjoyed it (and so did my husband). It was brave of Baz to do a big epic, something not in much favor anymore. Nicole, you were just fine. Be proud of your work.

I didn't see it on purpose, but Nicole is one of my favorites. Hugh Jackman is not -no chemistry between the two. Besides, epics, who needs them? This is a new age and history has been redone too many times.

"This is a new age and history has been redone too many times." Nonsense. Have you seen Mongol for example? There is plenty of history left to be told.

Doesnt the script give an actor some inkling as to what the movie will end up like....why did she agree to be in the flick?

Hollywood's a scam.

I grew up wanting to become a famous actor. I was in all the school plays, and sang everywhere, learned guitar and did community theater. Then, when playing the lead in Bye Bye Birdie, I saw myself on video for the first time. I could not bear it. That's when I decided to pursue a music career instead. Never regretted it, because even 30 years later, I can't stand to watch myself perform. I understand where she's coming from. It has nothing to do with how good you are, or how good you look, but how you think you should look and act. I know Richard Dryfuss is the same way, never watches himself. Probably hundreds of others, too.

Despite your feelings on this movie, you looked maaaarvelouuuus dahling. Don't be too hard on yourself. You lit up the screen especially the love scenes with hunk Hugh Jackman. You were absolutely stunning.

I agree. It wasn't the best movie in the world, but I enjoyed that afternoon out.

Kidman started running into trouble when she got into the same sex thing in her films. After that her career took a nosedive. She does her best and perhaps only good performances as a hot hetero. Anything other than that is basically a flop. Epic movies do not suit her. She needs to get back to her roots as a woman. If she can't do that her career is over.

WTF are you talking about? She won an academy award for The Hours. It was arguably her best performance.

Or are you trying to be sarcastic and failing?

She's a perfectly fine actress, she just makes bad film decisions.

I have never seen her anything, including, actually notably."The Hours",that I could stand watching her in.In my opinion, she has the emotional range of a log.

I could tell the movie stunk as soon as I saw the previews. I often wonder to myself who are these people who see this awful movies?
10:08 PM on 01/09/2009
I liked it quite a bit, but then I actually saw the movie and ignored the critics. I guess you could say people who think for themselves are the ones who see the movies you don't take the time to understand.

Hi Housewife,

I, too, ignore the critics especially if there is star quality starring in the movie/s.
Once the movie got through the first 45 min. or so, it became more tolarable to watch. Of course, the young boy stole the movie.
This was supposed to be an epic movie like GWTW, and so it was.
I liked it a lot.
