I Like ItI Don’t Like It

With Rod Blagojevich reminding me so vividly of Clay Davis, and Baltimore's Mayor in real life, Sheila Dixon, getting indicted on twelve counts, including theft and perjury charges, I might as well double down on The Wire and put up this YouTube that's been burning up the web lately. From HBO and DJ Mad Skillz, a five-seasons-in-five-minutes "Rap Up," that goes from start to finish -- brilliantly -- through the knotty narrative that David Simon and his great team of writers developed. This is probably going to appeal most broadly to fans of the show. Obviously, if you've never seen the show or are in the middle of watching it, a big, fat SPOILER ALERT applies.

What? No television awards, no acting awards?

Surely, you jest?

"The Wire" is the best TV show ever! For a while I thought season Five went off track until you realize that the social commentary being made is a statement of how badly the corporate media has abdicated its responsibilities as the fourth estate. The local newspaper was busy covering made a made up serial killer while real murders were happening right under their noses. Corruption was rampant in the city government while the editorial staff of the newspaper was trying to campaign for Pulitzers and figure out ways to cut staff. I never really thought about Baltimore until this show. Because of "The Wire" I feel very familiar with Baltimore's history and politics (after additional research and reading of course). The show had a great cast, employed lots of minority actors and directors, and cover the major topics affecting this country at the turn of the 21st century.

The video summarizes the major plot themes of the show was great also.

Greatest drama ever in the history of television. I have never seen a show cover the drug game, police, unions, media, government so well managing to do more than one of these topics at the same time.

The great thing about this is you can take your time. I missed one the season before last because I was going through a very rough time withdrawing from an anti-depressant and my severely damaged nervous system could not handle anything violent, and it was frustrating because I had looked forward to the series coming back. I knew that I was starting to heal when I was able to watch the last season. I, too, would like to see it from beginning to end, though.
