I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Friday morning's unemployment report revealed that 524,000 jobs were lost in December, bringing the 2008 net total to 2.6 million jobs lost. That's the highest number of jobs lost since 1945, and there were 11.1 million Americans unemployed in December. The unemployment rate has climbed to 7.2%, but not every industry is feeling the pain equally. Here's how it breaks down.

Our genius economists said first, "We must send wheelbarrows of cash to the supply-side financial institutions (they supply capital) -- they will then keep credit liquid and not glacial."

Well the genius economists goofed on that one. The major institutions are sitting on huge injections of warm, liquid cash who refuse to lend it.

The only way out of this -- and we must do it soon -- is to temporarily nationalize these institutions and loan out the people's money to the people at hardly any interest. And what better way to pay for all of this -- according to John Maynard Keynes -- than by a temporary REVENUE TARIFF on all imported goods which would about to about 200 billion dollars a year!

But, alas! -- what we will get, instead, is more economic palavering that will do nothing to staunch the layoffs.

Funny the tro//s who flock to the unemployment stories and brag about not having compassion. I wonder why they feel it necessary to share with us why they have a black hole where their heart should be? Anyone who brags about firing workers, about unemployment being good for people because they will have less food to eat and will lose weight, or fire people based on bumper stickers on their cars ( or fantasize about being a manager and doing this), are beyond sad. I am so sorry that the past 8 years did such damage to your souls. I pray the new administration will remind you we are all our brother's keeper.

My wife lost here job in January, I took a cut in pay to keep mine. I think the entire country should STOP WORKING. UNTIL Capital Gains Tax is increased to 90%, Corporate Tax rate is 35% domestic, foreign or otherwise with no loop holes.

Tax incentives to Corporations if they create jobs that last more than 3 months and hire only Americans

Don't worry, you will get $500 or $8.97 a week help is on its way.

Sorry, when I see $100 billion going to Corporations who had 8 years of the greatest profit plus now the bailout I loose enlightenment.

Corporations are creating jobs or paying tax. They are paying dividends to stock owners (CEO's included). These stock owner do not contribute to the corporation by trading stock. They pay 15% capital gain of dividends and any withdrawls from their overall portfolio's. Otherwise the simply reinvest in more stock purchases.

These rich have a very flat spending curve. How many washmachines can you use?

The greates transfer of wealth ever known. At 90% of the wealth in a hands of a few. Giving the rich and corporations more money weather in Hand Outs or Tax Cuts is distroying the free world

these numbers are inflated.........due to bo's threatened health care crap........i have laid off people to reduce my total payroll dollars........ i have already removed myself and family from payroll.......and most of my highly compensated EMPs have been removed also..........total payroll numbers are lower by far ........when bo gets in he will have employment numbers beyond belief to deal with.............all of the people removed from the payroll are technically unemployed........granted we all are paid in dividends. yet unemployed, just volunteering for the corporation.......bo's health care can only go based on payroll dollars........if all the high dollar people are removed from payroll it is very hard to tax based on payroll..........good luck with that one i have also laid off 3 EMPs in the shop.......if my taxes go up i will start laying off people until i make up the difference plus 25% for my inconvenience

Ohio is an at will state.......EMPs can be fire for any reason as long as the EMP is not a protected class......in some firings you do not have to give a reason........My attorney stated i could even give bo"s imminent taxes to my company as the reason...........payroll dollars just were cut amazingly.......no unemployment tax, worker comp and my share of the social security........the EMPs save on SSI, city tax. 6 EMPs i had to hire as consultants.

Labor department statistics are only based on the unemployed collecting benefits for 26 weeks. Wouldnt this mean that there are scores more, that have completed collection and are still unemployed? General openion is that 'people have given up" that's nonsense.

The only way to fix the economy is to forgive Americans' debts and re-regulate everything back to where it was 30 years ago, with the tax breaks and incentives that Jimmy Carter wanted for developing alternative energy.

Along with a job stimulus package for infrastructure repair and development and sustainable alternative energy, raising the minimum wage, paying living wages, ending tax credits for offshore manufacturing and jobs, that's the only way to dig our way out of this hole.

If you don't pay me a living wage at a job that I can count on, I'm not going to be spending on anything but necessities. Even then, I'll be cutting way back. If you give me that phony tax rebate that Bush did in the first year of his administration, I'll do with it what I did with that: I'll be paying off debt or saving it for when all the wheels come off this economy for real and for good. For guns, liquor, cigarettes and anything else that can get my family through a lawless society. But I won't be greasing the wheels of the engine of this economy.

Haven't seen that old no troll feeding comment here in a few years. Never has worked for long, so save your energy to think up better retorts to them.

Unemployment is good for people. Most Americans are overweight and having less money will cause them to eat less and thus get healthier. Also I think unemployment builds character and creativity as looking for a hard to find job makes you dig deeper into yourself. I also think that teachers and health care workers are leaches on our society and they should have their pay cut in half because they are such smartasses and useless to boot.

Oh, I fully agree. Teach your own kids and take care of your own health. Just don't expect me to pay for it.

Don't expect me to pay for your SSN. You people are so ignorant and self-righteous. Grow up.

My God you're clueless. Ever wonder why you see welfare moms that tip the scales? Because food that is good for you costs a lot more than processed food that is bad for you. When people have a bunch of mouths to feed and little money, they rely on starches and "cheap" food to make ends meet and stretch their money as far as it will go. As for your comment about health care workers and teachers, it just shows that maybe you needed more schooling before you opened your mouth.

Actually, the poorer you are, the fatter you are and unhealthier your diet.

Fast food is cheap food. Healthy foods (fruits, vegetables, lean proteins) are more expensive. Organic is more expensive still, but given what corporations have done to our food (toxic chemicals, gmo), if you want to not go broke paying for health care, you had better eat organics. Wait, what am I saying? We already are going broke paying for health care!

Mission Accomplished!

He came in with a %10 trilion tax cut for the top 400 and he leaves with the smallest middle class and largest poor in US history. If you count Obama's new bailout going to more Rich and Corp. GWB lives
