Chicago Ward committeemen narrowly voted to stay neutral in the Democratic primary election to choose a replacement for U.S. Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Chicago), who resigned to be President-elect Barack Obama's chief of staff.

Ald. Patrick O'Connor (40th) had said Friday night he had close to enough votes to get the slating to run as the official candidate of the Democratic primary.
