I Like ItI Don’t Like It

With only a longshot court appeal standing in the way of Democrat Al Franken's election to the Senate, Republicans are gritting their teeth and bracing for the arrival of a new senator whose every utterance will sound like nails on a chalkboard to them.

As is true of too many posts by conservatives right here in the blog, there is a lot more emotion and conviction than detail and explaination to the complaints about Franken. One says he's not 'honorable'? How so? Because the critic says so? It's no different from the dozens of completely unsupported posts that say Franken stole the election.

It's a party that appears very satisfied to sit in the corner and stew indefinfitely.

Making hay out of the fact that Franken wrote for Playboy in a manner that would sell in Playboy or that he had a career on an irrevererent comedy show is sheer drivel.

Republicans should instead start thinking about how on the outs they are with popular culture. Good, bad or indifferent it IS the culture of this country. Why couldn't McCain get anyone but godawful country acts let him use their music or play at his public appearances?

could you imagine if al franken was still putting up a fight at this point?oreilly and the rest of the wingnuts would be saying how hes attempting to litigate his way to victory.and how he oughtta just back off,the people have spoken etc...especially if a democratic governor was completely endorsing the recount process.why do these conservatives have so little confidence in their own republican governor?

And to the American People, the GOP is Public Enemy Number 1.

It's funny that Al Franken is the main GOP enemy. It shows how small minded they really are. This one guy, who used to do jokes on TV awhile ago, who has written books, been on the radio, and tells the truth is public enemy number one to the entire GOP. Funny. Inspired comedy. You can't make this stuff up.

Carl Hiaasen discovered that people can handle being denounced and villified but they can't handle being made fun of. This is why they fear Franken.

Like "Sen. Ann Coulter" would be to the Dems!... No, I take it back.

If the Republicans decide to filibuster anything ask Sen. Al Franken to read his books on c-span to the public. Sen. Franken could have free air time on c-span at prime time. He could bring his pals from SNL to help him put on a good show.

"It"s going to be hard for Franken to be very effective with any Republicans, in terms of having any credibility with us, just because he"s been so nasty in the past," Seifert said. "He certainly has callous and very partisan behavior in the past that is beyond the pale."

More hilarious than anything Franken ever wrote or said as a comedian.

-Franken was more partisan than Coleman who ran one of the foulest campaigns this state has ever seen?

-Franken was "nastier" than Coleman, who took a clip from a story Franken told to honor Wellstone out of context and made it the centerpiece of his TV campaign?

-Franken was more callous than Coleman who allowed his rent to be paid for, his suits to be bought, and his wife to accept money she didn't deserve? (Not yet proven, but hold on to your hats Coleman lovers, it's a comin')

That explains why they made Al Franken public enemy numero uno.

He's a pundit, author and Air America Radio personality more recently than an SNL writer/comedian, yet that's the first thing people talk about. Excuse me, but it's not the 1970s, 80s or 90s. Everyone please update your calendars. The reason the GOP dislikes him so vigorously is his stint on AAR and for "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot", not for Stuart Smalley or the Al Franken decade skit in 1979. And they should dislike him. He's a smart guy with a barbed tongue. He'll make the Senate hell for dullards like McConnell and Inhofe. Awesome.

Well, they'll make him a target and use him in fundraising, the article is correct about that. It's probably right about him being a little too serious. Of course he wants to distance himself from the "just a comedian" label.

Still, there are times when a cutting sense of humor can be a useful tool to a Senator. We'll see what committees he ends up on and what kind of hearings they hold.

He did. Coleman is in denial, not in the running. His current motion in the court does not arithmetically have a chance. He is literally only obstructing Al Franken now and he knows it.
