Free people are not servile agents in America (except if you don't understand what makes America special). This is a private matter, not a matter of "State".

Thank you 1st Lady Michelle! There's going to be some rough times ahead and we will do our job to help turn things around for the better.

This is what the Obamas were talking about during the campaign. They cannot do it alone and they said over and over again "We have to work together". When there is a volunteer structure in each community, necessary service operations such as schools,, shelters, food banks, etc. can hang on to their funds for increasing their services and all of it goes back into the community. That begins the turn around of the economy at the grass roots.

It seems like a formidable job at first, but, if everyone gets involved its amazing how fast it starts to take hold. Friendships are cemented, your soul is refreshed and you stand taller because you see the good that comes out of all of it. I wish the United States and its wonderful people good things in the months and years to come. You are terrific neighbors and we love you dearly.

As a Canadian, we are having difficulties as well because we have our own idiot in office. He is the typical "My way or the Highway Dipstick". If it wasnt for our volunteer programs we would be dead in the water so the best of luck to all of you and please, volunteer, get to know your communities, you would be glad you did and you will never regret it.

The US has millions of people that volunteer regularly at every imaginable job, and have since America's birth.

No one needed Mrs BO to pretend she thought of it.

What a rude and incendiary comment.

Yeah, just wait until this 'service' becomes mandatory. This Civilian Service Army, slated to be as big as the US ARMY, will enslave your children. Imagine the irony. The first black president bringing back slavery!

Why aren't Americans going to their local schools on weekends and doing repairs, painting or helping kids with studies ?

Oh I forgot Football, Basketball, Shopping, Drinking, and all the other vices come first .

What a great message. And Michelle looks absolutely gorgeous. She truly has it all. As an African American woman, I am so proud that she is going to be our First Lady.

Happy Birthday, Michelle. (January 17th)

Thank you, Michelle. If we are ever going to turn around the direction of our country and world, you have put your hand on one vital key: our willingness to participate. Thank you for the invitation. Count me 'in.'

All the best. Many blessings to you, our President-elect, your girls, and yes, your mother, too. It is about time we had a grandma in the White House!

In blessings and appreciation,
Cara Barker
