Rep. Mark Kirk: 'It's Time To Take Out The Trash In Gaza'

Progress Illinois   |   January 12, 2009 12:14 PM

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

While Israel's recent incursion into Gaza is a thorny issue and one beyond our purview here at Progress Illinois, I think there's one thing we can all agree on: in times of crisis, when bombs are flying abroad and innocent civilians are being killed and maimed, diplomacy is more important than ever.

My Uncle Bob was a GI in Europe in WWII, and he told me what they did when they got to Germany. If they encountered resistance in a town, they withdrew about a mile and called for TNT artillery on the town. That is where the whole line of artillery uses time on target tables to make sure that all the shells land at about the same place and time. The artillery would fire, and the town would literally disappear as thousands of shells hit at the same time. He said the effect was spectacular and leveled the town. Then they could go on to the next town. If they had the same problem, the same thing happened. He said after a few towns got this, the Germans decided that it was NOT a good idea to engage in house to house fighting in towns. He lived thanks to that action and could tell me that in person. So I hardly can condemn the Israelis.

One of those who had a comment used on the "Progress Il" site suggested than another use of the site act as a recruiter for the IDF. The irony of Rahm Emanuel having served in the IDF is striking. We also have US citizens who were anti-Israel fighters in the intifadas. I doubt if Mr Emanuel or the anti-Israel intifada fighters want to get into those situations again or see similar conditions in the USA, ever. It's difficult to immagine the situation in Gaza even if you have access to pro-Palestinian, pro-Israeli & allegedly more objective reports of those who claim to be neutral if you are in the USA I in 2009. Gaza & Israel are a different world.

Wise men say, one mans trash is another mans gold.

One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter!

The common denominator is, they all kill innocent people!

I think by "trash" he means Hamas members, possibly supporters!

Unfortunately the innocent are being taken out with the "trash" and being ignored by Captain Kirk.

Republican compassion is as rare as hens teeth!

This blatent and ignorant statement of racism and bigotry is either the result of the "education" of every one of our elected reps by AIPAC, et al to tow the Israeli line. The ability to subvert our domestic politics and foreign policy by the pro-Israeli lobby should cause concern by everyone who thinks America should look out for our own interests instead of being drawn into Israeli intent and policy. Our honor is diminished by support of what many consider war crimes and crimes against humanity by Israel against civilian populations. When our nation is lied to and the truth and an even view of the "conflict" is kept from us by a co-opted press and statements by elected reps in support of Israeli actions, we become complicit to any crime they commit. I have not heard a disentin voice from our reps and that is evidence of the power of pro-Israeli forces to affect our nation, to our great shame.

Trash removal like charity begins at home. Pandering to a voting block by talking trash unfortunately has its consequences - especially in an internet age where inane comments can circulate around the world within seconds and be used by those who already dislike the USA to justify more hate. There will always be politicians eager to throw more gasoline on a fire for personal gain - but nobody really needs such people. Hopefully voters will do a little trash removal of their own in 2010.

The GOP claim to be the moral party, the voice for Christianity, yet their actions speak louder than words. Those actions say that they have grown increasingly and seriously amoral. They're so un-Godlike they're nearly terrifying!

His electorate appears to be out of touch with the rest of the world and with most of this country.

USA politicians should learn some respect from their UK counterparts, instead of dancing to the tunes of AIPAC...

Rep. Kirk is right on the money. I am glad he is a part of our government and is speaking loudly what his electorate is thinking.

No he's not. It's one thing to defend Israel's right to defend itself.Which I do.

It's another thing to try an dehumanize the Gazan's 45% of whom voted against Humas.

Get a soul.

He is my Congressman and he sure as heck isn't speaking for most all of us
in his district.

It is time to take out the "Israel-First" crowd from Congress.

Now your talking about taking out the real trash. Members of congress who put another countries security and interests before their own, which includes Mr. Kirk, by spewing the propaganda lobbyist talking points of support have a dangerous impact on the security of American interests/residents, as reflected by the deaths of many innocent civilians on 9 / 11. Mr Kirk should be impeached, which seems to be the norm in the state of IL.
research   04:15 PM on 1/12/2009
These inhuman attitudes and comments only make things worse.

Both sides are stuck in vicious deadly Embrace dating back centuries.

45% of the Gazan's voted against Humas.

They desperately need trusted third parties to come in a negotiate.

Looks like it's time to get the trash out of the House and Senate.

GOP Bush demanded Pal/es/tine hold elections.

They did ... they elected Ha/mas.

Now, GOP says "It's time to take out the trash in Ga/za"

Is the GOP wanting to invade Ga/za like we did Ir/aq?
