I Like ItI Don’t Like It

While Israel's recent incursion into Gaza is a thorny issue and one beyond our purview here at Progress Illinois, I think there's one thing we can all agree on: in times of crisis, when bombs are flying abroad and innocent civilians are being killed and maimed, diplomacy is more important than ever.

GOP Bush demanded Palestine hold elections.

They did ... they elected Hamas.

Now, GOP says "It's time to take out the trash in Gaza"

Is the GOP wanting to invade Gaza like we did Iraq?

keep:

You cite an excellent example of how the neoclowns don't actually believe in democracy, regardless of their lofty rhetoric to the contrary. That fact was made abundantly clear here in 2000 when they got the SCOTUS to declare that all the ballots should not (and would not) be counted. They screamed for elections in Palestine and Hamas was fairly elected. Their position now, of course, is to enable their conservative counterparts in Israel to whom war is the first and only answer.

Kirk talks tough regarding the removal of trash in Gaza. Sadly, drowning in his moral relativism, he doesn't have the integrity or the initiative to take out his fellow republican't trash here in this country. Gee, what a surprise. Foreign events provide yet another opportunity to demonstrate GOP hypocrisy.

If we are in any way fortunate, Mr. Kirk will have some opposition in his next campaign.

We should all remember these crass remarks, made by a man with no class.

We should all contribute what we can to get him defeated.

We have learned. A lot of people giving a little bit, makes a BIG difference.

Mr. Kirk is not worthy to serve in the Congress of the United States.

Has any country in the world learned anything from the United States and how we reacted in proportion to 9/11?

How many countless innocent people have to die when a disproportionate few are responsible?

No matter how we feel towards Israel or Palestinians the results further fuel generations to hate each other. A single aimless Hamas rocket killing an Israeli family triggers surviving extended family members, neighbors, etc. to never forgive and never forget.

A guided Israeli missile is equal to years of smoldering hate from the surviving generations of Palestinians.

When will we human beings absorb this simple fact that has been the result of every quarrel, attack, skirmish and war from the beginning of tribal mentality.

Thousands were killed on 9/11 because of the actions of 19 people. How many hundreds of thousands had to die after. How many thousands of survivors of the innocent death toll are living in hatred of their families killers.
What a vicious circle of "losing hearts and minds".

Israel's doing great. They've lost all their humanity and can go forward as a callous culture without the intellectual and emotional knowhow to solve problems through any other means than brute force.

No excuse for comments like this when children are being bombed in shelters. Or their mothers have been taken from them forever.

I don't know the answers for the situation there--and I don't pretend to know. But I do react as a mom and as a human being. It's tragic when soldiers lose their lives, and I know that sometimes civilians get killed and war is ugly. But who can say that those little kids are the "garbage" in Gaza?

Awful. Awful. Awful.

And don't forget the two UN schools that the Israeli's purposely bombed since the UN had given the Israeli army their coordinates. And now the UN has had to pull their peace keepers out of Gaza to keep them from being targeted too.

I've seen some funerals for some pretty young kids who've died. Why is the so-called "pro-life" party so against actual life?

Let's not let the Dems off the hook here. The pro-Israeli mass slaughter in Gaza vote was unanimous in the Senate and had only 5 protesters in the House. This is bipartisan support for extreme viciousness. Horrifying to know our entire government supports walling off civilians and slaughtering them wholesale. At least a few of them did not support our pre-emptive invasion of Iraq.

How many innocent civilians have to lose their lives before someone calls a stop to this madness? If Hamas is the target, stop the indiscrimate bombing of populated urban areas where innocent lives are being shattered.

Isn't that exactly how German Nazis referred to Jews in the 1930's-40's?

The lack of compassion for the Palestinians is disturbing.

The dehumanization of the Palestinians is horrifying.

I think of a militaristic enemy who wall-in many people of a certain group, leave them there with no food, medical care, nothing, and they slowly starve and die. Gaza, or the War.saw gh etto?

And this callousness will serve to weaken Israel and us. Countries that kill together slide down the hill together.

Good Lord-what a comment. Can we please take away all the destructive toys we allowed Israel to purchase, and can we please get Iran to stop supplying Hamas. We need to smoke a peace pipe. Too many innocents on both sides have been killed. Where are the grownups?

No, all he wants to do is mindlessly pander to his constituency. The 10th Congressional District of IL has one of the highest Jew!sh populations in the country--many of whom will not appreciate this kind of chest thumping. Many will, of course.

This is a REPUBLICAN STRONGHOLD
though we, Dems, living here are making inroads
with each election.
Kirk JUST got re-elected............we tried and sadly missed.
He was worried until the last minute and we thought & hoped we had him.
Next time, he will be gone.

McCain, Bush, Cheney and Rove are four of his top supporters.
(Birds of a Feather)
