I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Sacha Baron Cohen had some of the most cutting, but hilarious remarks of the Golden Globes. Onstage to introduce best picture nominee "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," Cohen managed to draw gasps from the crowd, a death stare from Salma Hayek and a head shake from Sandra Bullock with his jokes about, among others, Charlie Sheen and Madonna.

He said in part:

"This recession is affecting everyone, even celebrities. Victoria Beckham hasn't eaten for three weeks. Charlie Sheen has been forced to have sex without paying for it. It's true. And even Madonna has had to get rid of one of her personal assistants. (pause) Our thoughts go out to you Guy Ritchie."

Those were not the best comments of the night. Come on, this was like late night pablum. Gervais was 10x funnier.

If you're telling me a Charlie Sheen pays for sex joke is the best of the night, we're in rough shape.

Maybe, but the comment about Guy Ritchie was spot on.

When you have Hollyweird celebs giving you death stares and Tom Hanks' missus shaking her finger at you, you are doing something right...and I would have loved if he had said to Tina Fey:

Hey, b--ch, do like the rest of the babes in Hollywood and get yourself some fake boobs! Those mosquito bites ain't happening...

There would have been a whole lotta finger wagging then, and I would have LOVED it!

If your material is tasteless and not funny, it's not the audience's fault, Sasha.

and Sasha Cohen could afford to make fun of impoverished folk in Kazakhstan, use them and their town, and pay them next to nothing all for a few hollywood laughs.

It was Romania.

They filmed in a small village in Romania. Impoverished? Please. That's just what the world looks like without an Applebees or canals for streets. They were duped just like all the others in the movie. Big deal.

His best joke was the one about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button...and the fact that the main character looks younger as he grows older........"much like many of the faces in this room."

I couldn't stop laughing!!

How could anyone be annoyed by that? Do these people realize how absurd they look?

It was funny! Then the camera should have focused on Mickey Rourke. Mean yes, but true!
We do it to the ladies. Fair is fair.

It's called humor folks. Celebrities can be such a sad, sorry lot that take themselves WAY TOO seriously. After all, they are just playing make believe which is what any kid will do. All they're doing is playing kids games. Lighten up already!

Too cruel (a new divorce is not funny, especially with children involved), and bad comic timing. He doesn't hold a candle to Stephen Colbert, Kathy Griffin. Hated Borat too. I don't think that movie will hold up to the test of time.

Just an opinion so please don't jump down my throat.

This guy is really funny. I saw him on TV in England years ago and thought he was great. He was good in Talladega Nights, too.

More! More!
That was funny.

The shot of T. Cruise is during a transition so the fact that he's not laughing is probably understandable; he's listening. He normally laughs without any prompting.

Selma Hyak, though. Her english has to be good enough that she "gets" humor, right? I mean, Guy Ritchie as Madonna's personal assistant? That's golden!

The people getting younger joke, that was expected. But the other material was good.

Maybe if he sang it like Billy Crystal, they'd all be laughing.

Actually, the two people (at least those scanned by the camera) that seemed to 'get it' were Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Pitt made an affirmative move with his mouth and Cruise seemed to be enjoying Cohen's barbs.

I guess the recession is really hitting the Repubs..purile stuff resonates with you. Truly classless lot. Therein lies the difference between libs and their counterparts. It's why the libs in the room didn't see the humor in the denigration. There are other ways to make jokes, resolve issues and not draw blood.

Lighten up. It was funny as is demostrated by the 90% positive responses.Humor can be vulgar and crude. It looks like it was judged as good humor and effective despite your personal opinion. It was seen as humourous by most and that's what counts. I'll bet even many divorces with children laughed too.
