When the CBS Corporation bought CNet for $1.8 billion last year, it acquired TV.com, a Web site that had little to brag about except a valuable domain name. Now CBS is transforming it into a video destination.

One month ago, CBS has redesigned the previously clunky site to showcase the thousands of new and old television episodes that it offers, from "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" to "Charlie's Angels." And on Monday, the company is expected to announce distribution deals with PBS, Sony, MGM and Endemol that will expand its free advertising-supported online library.

Got news for you: It's still clunky! With no cable, I've become quite familiar with Hulu and the network sites offering full episodes. As of 2 minutes ago, tv.com ranks about 10 rungs below the bottom. So far as I can tell, there are no alternative ways to browse full episode content. You're stuck exclusively with full episodes ranked by "popular" which seems to be akin to "most recent." But if you want to browse alphabetically, you're stuck with every useless clip they can throw in. And there doesn't seem to be much that isn't covered by either Hulu or the network sites. Get it together, boys and girls! You're way behind in this game so it's time to catch up even to your own network site.

CBS continues to throw any and everything up against the wall to see what sticks. So far for them nothing has. However if they're smart they can do lots with TV.com. the new model seems to be loosely based on Hulu.com but I think it is workable because there are many fans of CBS shows. I think when CBS boss Les Moonves should sell off whatever is in the CNET bucket that he can't use.
