I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Oprah Winfrey shocked guest Meryl Streep on Tuesday when she told the "Doubt" star that she had called the director and tried to costar in the film.

The role Oprah wanted was that of Mrs. Miller, the mother of the boy Streep's nun suspects is being molested by a priest. The part ultimately went to Viola Davis, who has garnered a slew of nominations for her work.

Oprah told Meryl "I wanted to do that," in part, "just so that I could have a scene with you in my lifetime."

"He told me no. No way! Not even a read or anything."

Meryl's look of surprise upon hearing the news is a must-see.

So did he molest the kid or not? I know it was supposed to leave you guessing but seriously. Is there an answer?

Had Oprah been casted in Doubt, it probably would have made more money at the box office.

Exactly. I would have actually watched it had Oprah been in it.

Pretty rude of that director to cast who he thinks would be best for the movie rather than what Oprah wants for herself.

You've spent too much time watching Oprah, and have forgotten how to read.

That was pretty rude of Oprah. The interview was supposed to be about Streep, not Oprah.

She does that a lot, make the interview about her.

After reading your comment and thinking , you are 100% correct. No matter who she interviews the topic always come back to Oprah. I don't see anything wrong with that necessarily, just be up front about it.

Oprah will probably tell Philip S Hoffman she wanted to play Meryl Streep's part. Because she's always wanted to work with him.

Oprah couldn't have come anywhere close to the raw portrayal of pain and perseverance of maternal love that Viola Davis gave as Mrs. Miller. Her reasons for wanting the part demonstrate the flip attraction to the role- to work with her friend and say a particularly strong line in the screenplay. Viola owned every line she spoke and her understated yet magnificent performance certainly deserves the nomination. Smart is the director who opts for quality over name recognition.

I don't know. In addition to being a sensational talk show host and business woman, Oprah's an outstanding actress. She was the best thing in A Color Purple.

Of course Oprah would have been fantastic, but I think her fame would have overshadowed the subtle power of that movie. I loved it.

For the first five seconds, maybe. But then her acting chops would take over. Oprah's really good. It's like casting anybody--like Cher in Silkwood--if the acting's good, you forget. Immediately.

Viola Davis was amazing in "Doubt". I'd never seen her before and immediately after the movie, I remarked that she and Amy Adams should both be nominated for "Best Supporting".

That said, Oprah might have done a good job of the part. But, it's not like she needs the work.

Viola Davis OWNED those 11 minutes of screen time. O could never match that performance in my opinion. Great call by the director.

If she wasn't OPRAH, then she could pull it off.

She wasn't OPRAH when she did The Color Purple. People saw Sophia.

She was OPRAH when she did Beloved and I still saw the character.

The director didn't want people to stay away from the film because of Oprah. She is to hot of a political (mashed tater with gravy and butter and sour cream). Get over it O.

I don't really get Drayak's comment but what is your point?

White people support white people? White people support themselves. There, now you have the secret to success.
