Sex Offender Who Won Alaska Lottery Beaten With Iron Pipe

The man who won the state's first half-million dollar lottery was attacked on a downtown street this afternoon with a tire iron or metal pipe, according to Anchorage police.

Police say Alec Ahsoak, 53, was attacked at about 3:30 p.m. when a man approached him to ask if he was the man who won the $500,000 jackpot.

If it starts with someone who has already served time for his crimes it quickly devolves into beating administered because someone said someone else committed a crime, then what? Can I point a finger and say odan sexually harassed me s/he deserves to be beaten... he better yet lets just lynch him/her.

When we are willing to bypass the rule of law because our emotions run so high... well that is not a society I want to live in.

For that matter how about car thieves or embezzlers or murderers or anyone else who has served their time in jail but hasn't satisfied the public need for revenge. We should just wait at the prison gates so we can stone them when they are released. Republican controlled Alaska has the highest number of sex crimes per capital against children in the nation. As a pilot who flew State troopers investigating sex crimes around I am certain the numbers understate the problem.
In court it is often argued that it is the victims fault, prosecutors are threatened, more important families and friends very often turn against victims. I was not suprised when I heard Sarah Palin require victims to pay for their own rape kits what is suprising is that her town decided later to fund kits..

It is disappointing when people who do bad things serve their time but not in the eyes of the public. With sex crimes, society, in a way, can bully them and has a veritable duty to make their lives as miserable as possible despite their serving their sentence. These guys have served their debt to society as society has determined through the law. Clearly the guy had problems. As a 3x sex offender, it's pretty clear he wasn't going to 'get better'. If they're still a ticking time bomb of lust with such irreversible evils in their soul, keep them in prison forever or walk them out back after the "Guilty" plea and shoot them. Otherwise, follow the rule of law and don't write your own... It's pretty clear stiffer penalties are in order to keep these people in prison in the first place. So if anyone should be getting harassment, it should be the judges and juries who determine that XX years/months for such crimes is sufficient. Why don't people read off THOSE details in their sex offender roundup in the paper or on the news or in door-to-door campaigns?
The guy was a free citizen who bought a lottery ticket. He didn't deserve to be beaten.

Statistically speaking, if this guy's been caught three times, the total number of his victims could easily be two dozen or more. As he's been caught three times, the chances are likely that he will offend again, and soon. The law protects these offenders in many ways and many predators go unpunished. If the injuries suffered by this creep kept him off the street for a few days, it's a good thing. Keep in mind the devastation and ruined lives this man is responsible for - and the victims, innocent children. IMO, a three-time offender should be locked up for good. Karma is a bitch.
