I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Israel and the US engaged in a rare and uncharacteristic public spat Tuesday over events leading to the US abstention in last Thursday's UN Security Council resolution vote on the Gaza crisis.

Both the State Department and White House spokesmen said that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's claim that he had essentially gotten US President George W. Bush to twist Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's arm and abstain on the measure was simply untrue.

A very ugly exhibition of unruly audacious example of unethical behavior by a head of government to have broken the norms and decorum required to be maintain by such high level office bearers. It definitely exposes the persons low standard of taste and proves strongly that the person does not deserve to grace such glorious office of the prime minister.

Meanwhile, back at Reality Ranch, it appears that al Qaeda is hoist by its own petard, getting some poetic justice, etc.

An al Qaeda training camp has been, to coin a redundancy, plagued by plague, with 40 dead.

Germ warfare a la germs and rats and mice, probably.

This suggests that they aren't the neatest housekeepers.

It wasn't fabricated, it happened. Another case of America bootlicking the Israelis.

"This reinforces the perception that the Israeli prime minister and Israeli leaders have easy access to the leaders of the U.S.," Bloomfield said. "It is a fact that the Israeli prime minister can get the president on the phone. Not every prime minister in the world can do that. It is no secret that Israel tried to influence the U.S. regarding U.N. votes. It reinforces what the rivals of Israel say about the enormous clout Israel has in Washington, and I see nothing wrong with that."

But Bloomfield added, "It is a mistake to talk about it."

As we KNOW nothing about what happened, I would just speculate that Olmert called Bush, and that Bush talked with Rice, and it was confirmed she would abstain, and that was the end of the matter until Olmert got it into his head that Rice was going to vote FOR the resolution and may be puffing himself up a bit as having "gotten Bush to twist Condi's arm."

But that IS pure speculation.

We KNOW nothing, as Sergeant Schultz used to say on "Hogan's Heroes."

Either way, both the Bush administration and Israel come out looking bad on this one.

If Olmert is telling the truth, who the hell are the Israelis to pull the President of the United States from a speech to get him on the phone? It looks like Israel is controlling American foreign policy. Even the right-wingers should object to that on patriotic grounds.

If Olmert is lying, then what kind of ally would brag falsely about humiliating the U.S. Secretary of State and exerting that kind of access to the President and control over our actions?

Time is long past for a reexamination of the U.S.-Israeli relationship and the extent to which our interests coincide with the interests expressed by the current Israeli governments--which should be distinguished from the actual interests of the Israeli people.

Why assume ANYBODY's lying? There may be some misperceptions, perhaps?

But I would suspect Olmert, who looked bad and down and out after the Lebanon cowardly mini-invasion and pullout, may be trying to puff himself up a bit.

And as for a head of state getting the president out of a speech, sure it could happen if he thought it important enough! The red phone may ring in the middle of a speech, not just at 3AM!

Sometime ago it was reported that Ariel Sharon boasted that he controlled the US Congress. Then it was reported that he denied saying any such thing.

Yesterday it is reported that Olmert said ..... Then it was reported that he never said it.

Does anyone really believe that Congress or the President of the US could be treated so?

Note carefully that almost everybody on this site reflexively, knee-jerkingly believes the worst about Bush and Israel!

Note carefully!

An immature audacious improper announcement by PM of Israel that shattered all norms of International code of conduct needed to be maintained between two independent states. Israeli PM's insistence on the issue sufficiently proves that Israel needs a PM with balanced mental condition in all respect. The present PM should immediately be hospitalized in a mental hospital. Earlier it is done the better for both himself and the country. his claim has stunned the whole world.

America must maintain its dignity and ignore such irrelevant claims of people with imbalanced mental condition. In future, people of such low profile should be kept at arms length and should not be brought at par. .

If anyone doubts that Israel has the U.S. by the balls, then this should prove it. Israel has something on the U.S. I don't know what it is -- maybe they know some deep down secret about one of our dirty tricks in foreign affairs....but for a country to have this kind of influence on another country and to have the Presidents lined up like ducks within its site -- something aint right. How can Israel have that kind of power?

It is called MONEY in a system where only money and money can determine who gets to become a candidate and win an election to Congress and Israeli supporters have Money to spend and they DO control the outcome of elections. That is how. No "deep down secret".

The American cover story doesn't hold water, I think they were surprised that Olmert made the exchange public. Olmert may have added a little bluster to the statement but what I wonder is, why the hell would Olmert even mention this, after getting what he wanted? Pure ego? To purposely embarrass the Bush administration, or just Rice?
Either way it's a bad move to make with the new President looking on. Obama must be wary of Israel's motives even more after this, lest he be embarrassed. What a stupid move on Israel's part, makes them look reckless at exactly the wrong time.

On October 3, 2001, I.A.P. News reported that according to Israel Radio (in Hebrew) Kol Yisrael an acrimonious argument erupted during the Israeli cabinet weekly session last week between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his foreign Minister Shimon Peres. Peres warned Sharon that refusing to heed incessant American requests for a cease-fire with the Palestinians would endanger Israeli interests and "turn the US against us. "Sharon reportedly yelled at Peres, saying "don't worry about American pressure, we the Jewish people control America."

----------

"The Israelis control the policy in the congress and the senate."

- Senator Fullbright, Chair of Senate Foreign Relations Committee: 10/07/1973 on CBS' "Face the Nation".

----------

"I am aware how almost impossible it is in this country to carry out a foreign policy [in the Middle East] not approved by the Jews ... terrific control the Jews have over the news media and the barrage the Jews have built up on congressmen ... I am very much concerned over the fact that the Jewish influence here is completely dominating the scene and making it almost impossible to get congress to do anything they don't approve of. The Israeli embassy is practically dictating to the congress through influential Jewish people in the country"

- Sec. of State John Foster Dulles quoted on p.99 of Fallen Pillars by Donald Neff
